God of War was one of the most famous and surprisingly influential hack & slash franchises in the mid-2000s. The gameplay was simple compared to Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, though just as tricky to master thanks to its platforming challenges and epic encounters with creatures from Greek mythology. Even Sonic the Hedgehog tried emulating Kratos moves for the Werehog in Sonic Unleashed.
