A new Destiny 2: Witch Queen teaser image could offer a first look at the Old Chicago setting that has previously been hinted at.

The latest This Week at Bungie blog featured a ton of exciting Destiny 2 news and information about the ongoing Season of the Splicer. But before the blog ended, Bungie senior community manager dmg04 had something special to share with Destiny 2 fans. The blog concluded with a single piece of concept art from Destiny 2's upcoming major expansion The Witch Queen. The intriguing piece of art has led some fans to speculate it could be players' first look at Destiny 2's Old Chicago setting.

The image in question isn't particularly revelatory. It looks to be a Guardian Hunter wearing the Witch Queen armor teased a few months ago. The character is the focus of the image, but the background is perhaps the more intriguing detail. Despite being out of focus, the background is dark, run down, with bright green marks covering certain indistinct objects. It's reminiscent of a piece of Old Chicago concept art, but it can't be compared with any certainty.

Old Chicago is a mysterious location in Destiny 2's lore. It is, obviously, a location on Earth, believed to be akin to the Old Russia location from the original Destiny. That is to say, it's believed to be a location from Earth's Golden Age when the Traveler's visit helped humanity thrive and spread throughout the Solar System. Old Chicago went to waste during the Collapse, which ended the Golden Era but the current state of the location remains to be discovered.

This isn't the first time that Old Chicago has been speculated to be The Witch Queen's new setting. In late 2020, Destiny 2 players speculated just that based on the color of The Witch Queen's logo. Destiny 2 expansions traditionally feature color schemes associated with their setting. Forsaken's purple logo fit its Reef setting and Shadowkeep's black and red logo matched the Scarlet Keep. The Witch Queen's logo is dark and green, matching the original Destiny Old Chicago concept art.

A matching logo isn't the only association that fans latched onto, however. Destiny 2 players also tied The Witch Queen to Old Chicago via lore. Specifically, the Graviton Lance's lore entry reveals it was found in Old Chicago. Perhaps coincidentally, the Witch Queen Savathun is also known to experiment with black holes, like what the Graviton Lance produces. It may be a loose connection, but Destiny 2 fans seem persuaded.

It may be some time before Destiny 2's upcoming expansion The Witch Queen is introduced in more detail as the expansion was recently delayed to 2022. Regardless, with teases like today's piece of concept art, Destiny 2 players will have plenty to consider in the months to come.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
