The Pokemon TCG has been dragon-free for a while but the powerful Pokemon type is set to return with the Sky Stream and Towering Perfection sets.

Since the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield, the Pokemon TCG has reduced the power and prevalence of dragon-type Pokemon, but that's about to change with two upcoming sets.

The two new Pokemon TCG sets coming soon are Sky Stream and Towering Perfection. Rayquaza and Gigantamax Duraludon are the cover cards for their respective packs and both sets not only include both dragon-type Pokemon, but their V and VMAX versions as well. Both new Pokemon TCG sets release on July 9.

Pokemon like Hydreigon, Altaria, Appletun and Flapple, Drampa, and others are included in Sky Stream and Towering Perfection as evolutionary lines. Some Pokemon such as Applin and Swablu become Dragon-type upon evolution, while others are dragon-type throughout their evolutionary line. Electric-type sheep Ampharos is even joining the Sky Stream and Towering Perfection sets, though it hasn't been confirmed that Mega Ampharos will join the set despite being part Dragon-type.

Legendary Pokemon Dialga has been confirmed for the Sky Stream and Towering Perfection set with a dragon-type basic card, and it may hint towards other Dragon-type Legendaries like Palkia, Giratina, and others joining the sets as well. Some additional V dragon-type Pokemon confirmed for Sky Stream and Towering Perfection include Dragonite and Noivern. Towering Perfection will focus on Single Strike cards and the set centers on Duraludon VMAX. Sky Stream, on the other hand, will rely on the power of Rayquaza VMAX and new Rapid Strike cards.

Dragon-type Pokemon will continue to have no weakness in Sky Stream and Towering Perfection. Some of the dragons will use various Energy cards depending on their aspects, such as Dragonite V using Water and Electric Energy. This will make sure that Pokemon TCG fans are still building decks around the energy requirements more than the type of Pokemon.

Some new trainer cards have been revealed for the Sky Stream and Towering Perfection sets such as Raihan and Zinnia which are expected to be chase cards in the set. Sky Stream and Towering Perfection will both feature 67 cards, not including special rarities like Secret Rares. A version of Rayquaza V, Drampa, and Turtonator will all be included as promo cards when Sky Stream and Towering Perfection release. Evolving Skies is the next Pokemon TCG set and it has already been revealed for an August 27 release.

Considering the fact that dragon-type Pokemon have disappeared from the Pokemon TCG for a while, many fans of the trading card game may be looking forward to the powerful type returning.
