Epic Games changes Fortnite's loading screen to a scene with the Spire in the background, as well as a mysterious television.

There's nothing more exciting in Fortnite than the closing of a season and the start of a new one. It isn't just the massive live events that Epic Games puts into Fortnite as part of the transition, it's also the mystery and storytelling that develop in the weeks ahead of a new Season's launch. Chapter 2 Season 6's conclusion is no different. Fortnite players are already starting to see odd occurrences, like the sudden introduction of a TV to the lobby.

Player lobbies in Fortnite always depict the player and their squad of up to four standing in front of a scene from the current season. The Chapter 2 Season 6 scene has players standing on a stretch of water from one of the rivers around the Spire at the center of Fortnite's map. Now there's an extra addition, however, to the left side of the screen. There's a lawn chair with an odd device sitting on top of a short plastic table. Further in the background is a retro television, currently showing a black and white noise pattern.

What the change to Fortnite's lobby means is any player's guess. There's nothing playing on the television yet. The device on the table could be anything, though it looks like some sort of ignition or button crossed with a classic Atari game console. The one interesting detail is that the lawn chair appears to be pointed towards the Spire. What Epic Games has planned remains a complete mystery, but the lobby arrangement is suspicious, to say the least.

Leaker HYPEX has teased this lobby for several days now. However, HYPEX has also been claiming that there would be an additional element that has yet to appear on live servers. They described a countdown showing the number of days remaining in the season, as well as a unique symbol featuring several glyphs. This countdown would supposedly show up on the television, as well as other TVs associated with the Foreshadowing questline.

How the Foreshadowing quests tie into the new lobby is yet to be clarified, especially since the TV is currently turned off in the lobby. However, the Foreshadowing questline could provide some clues. It tasks players with repairing telescopes, visiting crop circles, and destroying TVs. The association with aliens and abductions seems clear, but what that means for the Spire and Season 7 remains to be seen.

As ever, the best assumption to make with a new Fortnite season looming is that Epic Games is going to surprise players. All that players have to do is participate in what Epic makes available day to day, enjoy themselves, and wait for what comes next. With just a handful of days left until the end of Season 6 and the start of Season 7, players won't have to wait long.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
