In the world of strategy games, it's rare that a sequel directly connects to the entry that came before it. Instead, many strategy game sequels focus on improving the gameplay formula started by its predecessor, and expanding the series' scope rather than connecting its story directly to the prior entry, such as in Age of Empires 4 or Crusader Kings 3. Frostpunk 2, however, has many direct ties to the series' first entry.
