Among Us received renewed attention last year following the 2020 launch of the Henry Stickman Collection, which contained a number of references to the social deduction game. It was a perfect storm for the game as, due to the COVID pandemic, many were looking for activities to both take up their time and allow them to connect with friends as they stayed at home. The game's popularity reached such a point that it even breached the political world, as AOC appeared on a charity Twitch stream playing the game.
But the Among Us fandom may well have reached the peak of its powers with a little help from the McDonald's BTS meal. A fan, upon opening their BTS Meal, noticed one McNugget bore a striking resemblance to the crewmates from Among Us and promptly listed it on eBay. Thanks to the popularity of Among Us, the McNugget has now sold for a small fortune. While the value of the McNugget is in the eye of the beholder, plenty of eyebrows were raised, with many wondering if the money could have potentially been spent better elsewhere.

The Among Us chicken McNugget was originally listed for a measly 99 cents, but a bidding war soon commenced. When the auction closed, the winning bid coming out to $99,997.00 with $4.20 shipping, taking the grand total above the $100k mark to $100,001.20.
In comparison, for those looking to try their hand at finding an Among Us crewmate nugget in the wild, McDonald's offers a couple of pricing options. The first option is the medium meal, which comes in at $9.68 and downgrades the size of the drink and fries. The more expensive option is the large meal, valued at $12.29, which nets the buyer a larger drink and fries, although both meals offer 10 McNuggets, therefore not changing the odds of securing a crewmate nugget.
With Among Us coming to PS5 later this year, it seems fitting to compare the price of the crewmate McNugget with the price of a PS5. While a PlayStation 5 console is still difficult for fans to get their hands on, if hypothetically massive amounts of stock were to be dropped tomorrow, the $100,001.50 would fetch the prospective buyer 200 Disc systems. Alternatively, for discless gamers, the $100,001.50 would net a mammoth 250 PS5 Digital Edition systems. Of course, the purchase of hundreds of PlayStation 5 systems may not prove to be the most useful of investments, but questions could likewise be raised around the practicality of a $100,000 perishable nugget.
Buying both 200 Disc and 250 Digital PlayStation 5 systems would leave the buyer with a substantial amount of remaining change. Fortunately, there exists the perfect product to invest this change in, in the form of Among Us itself. The price for the PS5 version of Among Us is not yet known; however, it is speculated that it will be the same price as the Steam version of the game at $4.99. The change for 200 Disc PS5 consoles and 250 Digital consoles would be $201.50 and $251.50 respectively, which means buyers would have the choice of 250 Digital Edition PS5s and 50 copies of Among Us, or 200 Disc Edition consoles and 40 copies of Among Us.
It's difficult to come up with a worthwhile consolation for those who were interested in purchasing the Among Us nugget that ultimately fell short. It's unclear where the next crewmate-shaped McNugget will come from, but while prospective buyers await the next nugget drop, perhaps they could consider buying a single PlayStation 5 console to tide them over.
Among Us is out now for mobile, PC, and Switch, with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
