The month of June is the perfect time for players in Pokemon GO to go out and catch Clamperl- a Water-type Pokemon with branching evolutions.

With there being hundreds of Pokemon currently available in Pokemon GO, many of them have unique qualities that separate them from the others. One unique Pokemon is the pure Water-type, Clamperl.

While there are plenty of pure Water-type Pokemon in Pokemon GO, Clamperl stands out with its branching evolution. When given 50 Clamperl Candies, it can either evolve into Huntail or Gorebyss. Both Pokemon are also pure Water-types, but have completely different appearances and possible movesets.

Thanks to its branching evolutions, players may want to catch as many Clamperl as possible in order to get both Huntail and Gorebyss for their Pokedex and collections. The result of the evolution is completely random unlike the main games, so having a lot of Clamperl Candies is important.

June 2021 is currently the best time for players to catch Clamperl. This is because Clamperl is being offered as the current reward encounter for Research Breakthroughs for this month.

In order to earn a Research Breakthrough, players need to complete a field research task for seven days. These days do not have to be in a row, but players will be able to encounter Clamperl as long as the last task is completed in June 2021. Players can collect field research tasks via free ones given daily as well as from spinning PokeStops. Each individual PokeStop will give a player one specific field research task per day.

Players do not have to actually complete the task on the exact day they receive the reward for the task. This means that players can complete tasks and then only claim a reward once per day. The actual claiming of the reward is what counts toward the Research Breakthroughs, making it helpful for days with bad weather or other obstacles that can get in the way of daily field research task completion.

With Clamperl being a Research Breakthrough encounter, players will be able to get four to five Clamperls through this method, depending on if players have days from previous months. Clamperl and its evolutions aren't exceptionally powerful Pokemon, but they are great for taking pictures of and filling up collections. Lucky players may even encounter a shiny Clamperl that can be evolved into either a shiny Huntail or shiny Gorebyss.

Clamperl isn't exclusive to being found via Research Breakthroughs, so there is still a chance for it to be encountered in the wild. The best locations to look for it include coastlines and places with large bodies of water.
