A job listing on Respawn's website indicates that it is looking for new talent for an upcoming, as yet unannounced game.

Respawn Entertainment's career page has been updated with a new listing for Lead Combat Designer, specifically mentioning a new, unannounced game. While the Respawn Entertainment kept the job description somewhat vague, there is a lot of room to consider what this could mean for the future of the studio.

The combat designer role falls under the "New Game Incubation Team" category, and describes the talents and qualifications required of applicants. It is evident the company is taking this position seriously, with steep experience requirements that would allow only industry veterans through.

The post specifically appears to be searching for someone to head the combat design in an "incubation team" for an as yet unannounced project. Aside from the usual job listing requirements of good communication skills and teamwork, the listing itself does not specifically state whether this is an entry in an existing franchise or an entirely new IP, but it does reveal interesting information about the engine, perspective and current state of the new game. The listing specifically mentions experience with Unreal Engine 4 being an ideal candidate skill, suggesting the game will not be using the modified Source engine games like Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends are known to use.

The post asks for experience with rapid prototyping, suggesting the main gameplay ideas have not quite been nailed down by the current team yet. Most interestingly, the listing asks for candidates that are passionate about first-person shooter games, meaning wherever the rest of this game's design will go, it will most likely remain a first-person shooter. Given the design brilliance of Titanfall 2, it is clear that first-person shooters are what the team at Respawn do best, and this new project will be yet another chance for the development team to showcase great design.

The unannounced title could be the new IP Respawn confirmed earlier this year, so Titanfall fans should try not to get their hopes up for a new entry in the series. Still, given Respawn's history of delivering high-quality experiences, this buildup to a new IP should catch the attention of first-person shooter players, even if there is a lot of room for speculation at this point.

To fans still asking for Titanfall 3, this new IP could feel discouraging. However, with frequent content updates to Apex Legends and the recent revival of Titanfall 2's fanbase, it is clear that the Titanfall series is here to stay for a while longer. In the meantime, both Apex Legends and this new IP will be interesting enough to follow while Titanfall fans wait for another entry in the series.
