Out of all the first-party Nintendo franchises currently in circulation, many fans consider Metroid to be one of the more underappreciated series. Given that the most recent game in the series released nearly four years ago and was little more than a remake of Metroid 2: Return of Samus, many in the gaming community feel that Metroid is due for some kind of return. Luckily, a group of fans was able to deliver in some capacity.
As is the case with a lot of seemingly abandoned video game franchises, fans of any given series are able to keep the spirit of these games alive through a variety of means. Metroid is no exception to this, considering that there have been some exceptional Samus cosplays over the years, as well as fan art and short films.

A YouTuber by the name of devinsupertramp, along with an extensive filmmaking team, created an impressive, live-action Metroid short film that looks like something out of Metroid Prime. The level of detail and polish is incredible, especially considering that it's fan-made and therefore, production quality would not be on the same level as Hollywood. From the CGI, to the set decoration, the film even has a live-action version of Samus' morph ball form.
There's also a massive CGI version of Ridley. It manages to match Ridley's terrifying scale as he's presented in the video games with a high level of detail. Despite the film being only eight minutes long, this video in its entirety will be sure to make any old-school Metroid fan happy and nostalgic for the previous games.
It has been a very long time since a mainline entry in the Metroid series has released and the lack of information from Nintendo has caused a lot of restlessness among fans of the series. The fact that Nintendo hasn't mentioned Metroid Prime 4 in over 800 days is, admittedly, legitimate cause for concern in terms of seeing a brand new Metroid game.
Then again, that doesn't exactly mean that Nintendo isn't working on the game or that Metroid Prime 4 will never release. It could just mean that Nintendo wishes to wait until it has something substantial to show Metroid fans. During the most recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo addressed the lack of news regarding Breath of the Wild 2 by saying that the studio wants to show fans something more polished, as opposed to just another teaser trailer. That's likely the case for Metroid Prime 4 as well.
