The latest Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart contains an easter egg that a fan discovers, leading to a Sunset Overdrive tweet for the first time in years.

The latest Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart trailer contains an insightful retrospective on the Ratchet and Clank series, from its origins on the PS2 up to the latest game in the series set to release on the PS5. One of the many charming details shown in its franchise evolution trailer isn't the featurette of the games themselves, but rather the decor of the room throughout the Ratchet and Clank timeline.

Within each generation, various memorabilia related to Insomniac Games' previous works are shown relative to each timeline. The most recent timeline features the unexpected cameo of Fizzie from Sunset Overdrive that a fan eagerly pointed out in a tweet. The following reveals from Insomniac Games itself may potentially lead up to the return of one of Insomniac Games' cult-classic titles in some capacity within Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

Among the many Ratchet figurines throughout the 2021 timeline, The Sunset Overdrive mascot and main villain, Fizzie, hidden behind a figurine box for the Ratchet and Clank Future series was hidden in plain sight for many fans, initially. The Easter egg was first recognized by the general public via a fan who tweeted the discovery in his excitement, A few days later following the retrospective trailer, the Sunset Overdrive Twitter account based on Fizzie had tweeted for the first time since 2018.

Fizzie's tweet was actually a reference to a different tweet entirely as earlier in the afternoon, the official Insomniac Games account tweeted a Sunset Overdrive-based tweet of its own. An image of the oversized Fizzie that the player fights in Sunset Overdrive is edited with a portal rift, making it appear as if the rift between the two universes is "breaking apart."

Insomniac Games acknowledging Sunset Overdrive is a huge win for its fans, as the game was exclusive on Microsoft consoles and PC for years prior to Sony purchasing the company. As Insomniac Games owns the Sunset Overdrive IP, this is the first time that the IP is shown on a Sony product following Sony registering the trademark in back March. Ultimately, it was a promotion for Ratchet and Clank's newest weapon, the RYNO 8, first mentioned earlier in the afternoon as the latest edition of the superweapon first introduced in the original game.

In Rift Apart, the RYNO 8 has the ability to displace objects from other "dimensions," featuring cameos from titles including Sly Cooper and Horizon Zero Dawn among others. With the bevy of Easter egg tweets coming full circle, the interconnectivity between Insomniac Games and its neighboring developers' various IPs forming a "multiverse" of sorts is an intriguing thought for the future of other titles within their individual franchises.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will release on June 11th, 2021 for the PS5.
