Elder Scrolls Online launches its new Blackwood expansion today, accompanied by a new gameplay trailer that gives players a look at what to expect.

The Elder Scrolls Online has been running a year-long adventure known as The Gates of Oblivion that started in March. The adventure is set to be continued with The Elder Scrolls Online's newest DLC, Blackwood.

For those that don't know, The Gates of Oblivion is the MMO's all-new story arc that features players fighting against Oblivion's Prince of Destruction, Mehrunes Dagon. The event started in March with the launch of the game's Flames of Ambition DLC that added a series of new dungeons that introduced Mehrunes Dagon and the threat they posed to all of Tamriel. Now, Blackwood is set to take the MMO to an entirely new region and really start the adventure's story.

With Blackwood now available for all Elder Scrolls Online players, the game has released a trailer to show off some of the story beats, areas, and gameplay that players can expect from the newest chapter of The Gates of Oblivion. The trailer creates a dramatic tone for the rise of Mehrunes Dagon and shows the scale of what players can expect from the chapter. It shows a couple of battles featuring sizable groups of what could be players or some of Elder Scrolls Online's new player companions.

The trailer also shows off some of Elder Scrolls Online's stunning new locations and vistas. The region of Blackwood is mostly covered in a dense swamp that is teaming with life and fungus. But the Blackwood trailer also shows off some of the fiery landscapes of the realm of Oblivion that players will venture to as well. Rivers of lava, burning horizons, and a sky choked in smoke all stand in stark contrast with the foggy, life-harboring swamps of Blackwood. However, players will have to jump in and play through Blackwood's 30-hour campaign to see what the expansion all has to offer.

Blackwood seems to be a big expansion for Elder Scrolls Online players, and its pivotal role in The Gates of Oblivion will likely make most players of the MMO not want to miss it. The expansion does feature a lot of other additions, such as new armor sets, a new companion system, new Oblivion portal world events, and a lot of new content for players to dive into. With Bethesda saying that Elder Scrolls Online is the most popular multi-platform MMO, hopefully its many players get a lot to enjoy out of the new Blackwood expansion.

Elder Scrolls Online and Blackwood are available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X
