As someone who grew up in the 1990s, I loved the Scary Movie franchise. I remember seeing one of the movies in theaters as a pre-teen... with our moms sitting in the theater in another row. They weren't thrilled with the sometimes inappropriate jokes or storylines, but they knew we appreciated how the films poked fun at the horror genre. Ever since I saw Carrie as an eleven-year-old, which was admittedly a bit young to see that Stephen King classic, I've been fascinated by spooky stories that examine our fears. And I love that the Scary Movie franchise proves that it's possible to also laugh at some of the tropes and storylines that endure.
