Battlefield 2042’s big reveal today has come after a lot of speculation, rumors, a very brief teaser for the game, and excitement from fans. The sixth main installment in the series will be launching this fall with a release date of October 22nd, which is less than six months away. Despite the game's lack of a single-player campaign, it looks like there will be a lot of content for players to get into.
So far two core game modes have been confirmed for Battlefield 2042, Conquest and Breakthrough, and are others sure to be added in the future. One new game mode will be given some time in the spotlight at EA Play on July 22nd, a little over a month away. While there is not much info out on this new mode right now it does sound like hardcore Battlefield fans will enjoy it.

Base versions of Battlefield 2042 have been confirmed to have a price point of $59.99 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. For fans that are looking to get it on the new generation of consoles, the game will retail at $69.99. Battlefield 2042 Gold Edition will run a little more expensive with a price of $89.99 on PC and $99.99 on consoles, respectively.
Battlefield 2042 is also coming out with an Ultimate Edition that will break the $100 mark regardless of what platform it is bought on. For PC the Ultimate Edition will run $109.99 and it will retail for $119.99 on consoles. The optional editions generally bring season passes and cosmetics but fans would not be wrong to hold out hope for some cool collectibles. Battlefield 2042's site will be putting up even more information for EA Play and EA Play Pro subscribers as well as making pre-orders available today.
The price increase for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S games looks like it is here to stay but there are some major differences between Battlefield 2042 on the older generation of consoles and the new one. While PS4 and Xbox One will still have the game’s impressive maps and some pretty big 64-player lobbies, the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions will boast both larger map and 128-player lobby sizes.
On PC and the new generation of consoles, the maps will have some seriously massive scale, which is saying a lot considering the Battlefield franchise's history with dynamic multiplayer maps. Those players that get the game on either PC or next-gen consoles they will be able to play with double the players on even large maps than other Battlefield games.
It has been a long wait and there is still more to come out about Battlefield 2042 but with how little time there is between today’s reveal and the release these next few months will be packed. The next week will be even more exciting as more info comes out about the game and E3 2021 kicks into full gear. Hopefully, today is only a taste of what this weekend will bring for the gaming community.
Battlefield 2042 is releasing October 22 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
