Far Cry 6 is doing away with Far Cry New Dawn's weapon tier system, and that could prove to be a popular choice with the community.

Far Cry is one of the most valuable IPs under Ubisoft's belt. Ever since its humble beginnings as a PC exclusive, the franchise has carved out a unique reputation for itself in having larger-than-life villains in some of the most exotic fictional locations around the globe.

Far Cry 6 seems to be carrying the torch in these departments but radically changes the formula in others when compared to Far Cry New Dawn. Game director Alexandre Letendre has revealed that Far Cry New Dawn's weapon tier system wouldn't be making a return in Far Cry 6. Most of the community has reacted extremely positively to this change, and there's a multitude of reasons as to why it's for the best.

The Far Cry series has mostly remained distant from RPG elements which have worked well enough in the games' favor. Far Cry 6 and previous entries are first and foremost open-world games with a strong suit for exploration. The myriad of open-world activities at the player's disposal is the main point of attraction for most fans of the series, and adding any form of RPG elements goes against that very intention.

Far Cry New Dawn's weapon tier system required players to craft and upgrade weapons by upgrading a weapons bench. Venturing deep into uncharted territory became more punishing than rewarding especially early on since similarly tiered enemies could down players very easily while dispatching them with lower-tiered weapons became an exercise in patience.

According to Far Cry 6 game director, Far Cry New Dawn's weapon tier system also prohibited players from customizing their arsenal to better suit a specific playstyle. High-tier weapons in Far Cry New Dawn are better in almost every way than lower-tiered, which made them much more effective in combat without many trade-offs. This created a repetitive loop of using weapons with the highest damage numbers which robbed players out of much meaningful customization in playstyle - one of the strongest suits of Far Cry's sandbox environments.

There are some fans that enjoyed and preferred the RPG elements of Far Cry New Dawn. It's quite understandable since New Dawn is a post-apocalyptic spinoff to a franchise deeply rooted in tackling themes of survival in desolate landscapes. However, Far Cry 6 is a return to form within that context, remaining grounded in reality while transitioning from survival to themes of resistance and revolts against the oppressive regime of Anton Castillo.

Far Cry 6 seems to have an elegant solution to any voids that might have been left by fans of Far Cry New Dawn's exotic weaponry. The latest trailer showed a bunch of unique hand-crafted weaponry which carries on the same level of goof without undermining any sense of realism. The saw launcher has been replaced by a disc launcher playing Makerera. Plus, there's also a customizable jetpack that can serve multiple purposes in combat.

It's been said multiple times before that Far Cry 6 is a game of many firsts, wherein delivering a heartfelt narrative is a strong focus. Hopefully, these additions serve to make the gameplay more fun and engaging without creating disconnects from the probably serious and grounded story.

Far Cry 6 launches October 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
