The PlayStation 5 Pro set the internet on fire when it was revealed in September 2024, but not for all the right reasons. Sony's mid-generation refresh has been the subject of criticism from many corners of the gaming community, in large part because of its hefty price tag. It costs a whopping $700 at retail, which is $200 more than the base PS5. To put that into perspective, the PS4 Pro launched at $400 in 2016, roughly the same price that the original PS4 was sold at. Taking that into account, the PlayStation 5 Pro is, without a doubt, one of the most expensive Sony consoles ever released, and its lack of a built-in disc drive or vertical stand makes its price harder to swallow.
