The newest trailer for Solar Ash premiered at Summer Game Fest 2021, showing the protagonist, Rei, taking down another of the game's giant beasts. This is the second game from Hyper Light Drift developer Heart Machine and it has a very similar appearance and style. While the trailer failed to provide a solid release date, it did manage to show off more of the game's flashy and fluid traversal mechanics.

The world's first look at Solar Ash came as part of the PlayStation 5 event last year, where the next-gen console was first unveiled. It was short and sweet, and worked well as a general introduction to the title but didn't do much in showing how the game will play. In February the following year, the game got more time to shine during a Sony State of Play, where new Solar Ash PS5 gameplay footage was featured. The latest trailer focuses more on traversal mechanics and shows the colorful, otherworldly Rei walking, climbing, and skating around equally colorful environments.

As the trailer demonstrates, players will have a basic attack that can be used while moving. They will also have a grappling device, which is used at one point to latch onto the back of a giant, flying creature called a Sentinal. Rei will need to take down a number of them along her journey.

More information on these giant beasts and the game's story will likely be revealed when the indie title is closer to launch. When that will be is also not quite clear, as the game still has a vague, 2021 release date. W

Solar Ash will release for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 in 2021.
