The second Ancient Tech Lab, located deep in Akkala, has a furnace that is much more difficult to light than the Hateno Lab Link has found before.

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players will have to venture into some dangerous situations in order to complete shrines, puzzles, and upgrade all the Breath of the Wild armor sets. Deep in Akkala territory, there is a tech lab that players will want to unlock, but it can be difficult to get there, much less light the furnace and get the lab up and running again.

The Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, which is home to the older version of the Sheikah researcher Robbie from Age of Calamity, is located in the far northeast of the BotW map. It is on a hill crowning an overlook of the Akkala Sea, just north along the road from the East Akkala Stable and Katosa Aug Shrine.

As Link approaches the door of the Tech lab, it's pretty plain that, like the Tech lab in Hateno Village, that the furnace is no longer lit. That means the lab is no longer functioning, and players will not be able to purchase anything from the location without first getting the fire going again.

Unlike its Hateno counterpart, the path to find the blue flame is not simple or straightforward. In fact, the blue flame needed to relight the Akkala furnace is very far away and filled to the brim with dangerous Breath of the Wild enemies like Moblins and decayed guardians. The route is so dangerous in fact, that players may want to clear a path before grabbing the flame to start with, backtracking along the path and killing all the enemies they find. It's a long and winding road that starts at the top of Tumlea Heights, goes north around Bloodleaf lake's east side, then across a brigde, down the rest of Bloodleaf lake on the west side, around the southern edge of the lake and back up the road to the Tech lab.

  • Bring several torches and other wooden objects to use to light the way.
  • Start during the early morning hours; players do not want to come across a Breath of the Wild Blood Moon trigger while completing this trial.
  • Kill as many critters on the way to the blue flame as possible to clear a path.
  • Rain comes suddenly and often to Akkala, so keep a close eye on the weather icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  • Light every lantern that Link comes across; if players break their torch or the rain puts it out, it will lessen the time it will take to start again.
  • Don't forget to bring some of the blue flame down to the East Akkala Stable too; there is a quest there from an NPC who wants to see the blue fire again.
  • Save after lighting the furnace at the Tech Lab.

Now that players have unlocked the Tech Lab, Robbie will offer items in exchange for ancient artifacts. Players will find the Breath of the Wild's Ancient Armor, which protects against Guardian damage, Ancient arrows that will one-shot almost everything in the game, and other ancient weapons. These weapons are great for avoiding lighting damage, as none of them are metallic.

Breath of the Wild is available for Nintendo Switch.
