The Materia Maven trophy in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Yuffie DLC involves mastering a difficult mini-game, but this guide will offer helpful tips.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake received a generous helping of enhancements and new content with the release of Intergrade on the PS5. The new add-on campaign, Episode INTERmission, focuses on Yuffie's adventures in Midgar during the events of the base game. This DLC episode also adds a few new trophies that players can earn to prove their full completion of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. One trophy that is especially difficult is the Materia Maven trophy in the Yuffie DLC. This guide will explain what must be done to earn the Materia Maven trophy and offer some tips to complete it without frustration.

To earn the Materia Maven trophy, players must obtain all materia available from Shinra Box Buster challenges. The Shinra Box Buster challenges are accessible during Chapter 2 of Episode INTERmission. As the trophy description implies, there are several orbs of materia up for grabs in the Shinra Box Buster mini-game. These are all very useful materia that can come in handy when fighting the DLC boss enemy Weiss. The sooner players are able to grab these materia and level them up, the better.

Towards the end of the Yuffie DLC playtime, Yuffie and Sonon will become trapped in Shinra's Advanced Weaponry facility. The player will have to ascend the basement levels, restoring power along the way. The Shinra Box Buster mini-game will be found on level B14. There are a total of six materia that can be earned as rewards by achieving high scores in the mini-game. First in the Basic Training, and then SOLDIER Training will become unlocked afterwards.

The premise of Shinra Box Buster is simple. Players will earn points by breaking boxes. The orange boxes are worth 100 points and can be quickly broken with melee attacks. Purple boxes are worth 200 points, and it's best to use magic or Yuffie's unique ninjutsu combat techniques to break them quickly. The large white boxes are worth 1,500, but they are extremely durable. There are also small red boxes that can be broken to add time to the countdown. Getting a high enough score during the allotted time will lead to rewards in the form of materia afterward.

The Basic Training course is quite easy. To earn all three rewards from Basic Training, gamers will have to achieve at least 20,000 points. It may sound daunting, but it will be doable as long as the correct types of attacks are used on different boxes. The following tips should come in handy for players who are struggling.

  • Use ninjutsu on purple blocks, not magic. It’s best to save ATB.
  • Use Throw and then Retrieve on orange blocks to traverse the area quickly.
  • Abilities should be used on white blocks to break them quickly. Throw + Windstorm is a good combination.

In the SOLDIER Training, players must reach 50,000 points to earn all rewards. This will be very difficult, but it can be done if the above strategies are followed. It may take multiple tries to memorize the course layout and get a feel for how to break the boxes quickly. In the SOLIDER course, the red boxes that increase time will be extremely important.

It will take patience to earn the Materia Maven trophy, but achievement hunters will be used to that after earning the Game, Set, Master Fort Condor trophy.
