Everyone's favorite 10-year-old Pokemon trainer, Ash Ketchum, has gone through a plethora of outfit changes over his years of traveling the world. With each new generation of Pokemon comes another upgrade to his classic look, though some are a lot more impressive than others.

Though the boy would never head out on a new journey without his iconic baseball cap, blue color scheme, and cool sneakers, his outfits are always getting revamped in different ways to keep him looking fresh. There are noticeably some outfits that are much cooler than others, and some that are totally lackluster on the cheery, upcoming Pokemon Master.
9 Pokemon Journeys: The Series (2019)
Why is Ash wearing shorts? His poor scrawny legs are going to get scratched up as he travels throughout the various terrain of the land, through tall grass and deep forests. The outfit Ash wears in the latest season of Pokemon is the only one where he wears full on shorts. He also sports a white tee with an open vest on top, giving him very Vineyard Vines fishing dude vibes. Lastly, the logo on his hat is unlike any other we've seen before, and it is very odd looking. Goh, however, looks cool in his sporty, athleisure wear.
8 Pokemon: Diamond and Pearl (2006)
In the third generation of the Pokemon anime, Ash swaps out his iconic blue and white jacket for a black and yellow one. His jeans got noticeably baggier and he swapped his hat for a black, red, and blue one. It's a lot less visually appealing than his previous outfit, though it does resemble what an actual 10-year-old would wear. He's trying his best to dress himself without his mom's help, and we applaud him for that.
7 Pokemon: Advanced Generation (2002)
Ash's outfit change from the first season of the anime to Pokemon Advanced Gen isn't too drastic. He keeps the same color scheme, light wash jeans, and short sleeve top, pairing them with a new black and red hat with a new green logo. It's a cute look, very similar from his original outfit, but it's just a little boring and unimaginative.

The creators could have designed him an entirely new look, symbolizing his change in talents and abilities, but instead he just stuck with the same outfit, slightly evolved.
6 Pokemon: Sun and Moon (2016)
Ash ditched his famous short sleeve jacket for just a t-shirt, and threw out his jeans to replace them with some red-cuffed, capri cargo pants. It's a cute look, not too flashy or out of the norm for a boy his age, and the pants seem a bit more comfortable and durable than his typical jeans. The only thing he's really missing are his classic fingerless gloves. Ash is never complete without the fingerless gloves.
5 Pokemon: Black and White (2010)
Ash has a lot going on in his outfit from Black and White, adding in a random pop of yellow among his already prominent blue, red, white, and black articles of clothing. It would have been cool to see Ash wearing a sleek all black and white outfit, to match the English title of the show, though it would have been such a big change for him after mainly wearing blue over all those years. The clash of colors, styles, and vibes of his outfit makes this one not the worst of the group, but definitely not the best.
4 Pokemon The Series: XY (2013)
Ash from Pokemon The Series: XY sports his classic color combo of blue, white, and red, and he looks adorable in it. He has on his new, high top sneakers and matching fingerless gloves, making him one of the coolest, sporty, young Pokemon trainers on the block!

Ash looks like a proper gym trainer in this fit, boasting his simplistic yet chic taste that looks great and is still functional for running around the globe looking for rare Pokemon.
3 Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You (2017)
In this alternate version of Ash's classic storyline, the pre-teen wears his classic outfit from the original series with only small tweaks. His hat has a different logo, but still follows the red, white, and green color scheme. His white and blue jacket with yellow lining, dark undershirt shirt, light washed jeans, and green gloves are all the same, bringing fans of the series some much needed nostalgia while also still upgrading his style to be more crisp and cute than ever.
2 Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us (2018)
This is arguably the best outfit Ash has ever worn throughout his appearances across the decades. Just looks at that jacket! The boy really upped his fashion game throughout the years, vamping his original outfit from the 90's into a new, more colorful version. He really leaned into the geometric, bright styles of the 90s with that jacket, which matches perfectly with his hat. He also keeps a very simple look underneath, with a dark tee and pants to bring the attention back to his outerwear. Matched with the adorableness of the art style in this movie, Ash's The Power of Us outfit is very hard to beat.
1 Pokemon: Original Series (1997)
There's no way anything could ever beat Ash Ketchum's outfit from the very first seasons and movies of Pokemon. It is such a simple yet recognizable outfit that thousands of people have cosplayed and loved over the years. The fingerless gloves are such a statement, paired with the collared, simplistic jacket and casual, natural boy clothes underneath. This outfit will always be the go-to for anyone wanting to dress up as Ash for a costume party. Maybe one day in the future, fans of the anime will get to see Ash wear a hat with the very first green logo on it.
