The best JRPGs, whether they're exceptionally difficult or lighthearted and easy, afford players ample opportunities to customize their parties. While the reputation of the game is changing, it's still closer to the norm than not that JRPGs are narratively linear experiences with avenues for player agency through party composition. Games like Pokemon or Final Fantasy might be heading to the same ending, but how the party looks by the time they get there is where choices matter.
