Red Dead Redemption 2 player experiences an even more stressful version of Acadia for Amateurs mission as bear attacks mid-cutscene.

A new clip on the Red Dead Redemption subreddit shows Arthur Morgan being interrupted mid-cutscene by a brutal bear attack. In order to complete the Arcadia for Amateurs second mission, the only animals players usually have to worry about are wolves but that doesn't prove true here.

Red Dead Redemption 2 holds an open world full of dangerous encounters with NPCs as well as wild animals. In the Arcadia for Amateurs side quests, players visit wildlife photographer Albert Mason on several occasions and in various locations. More often than not, this photographer ends up in incredible danger because of his tendency to get close to the wildlife of Red Dead Redemption 2.

But in none of these encounters does Mason put players in a position where they need to fight off a bear like in this clip. In this particular encounter, everything goes as planned and u/danilo043 either kills or scares off the pack of wolves hunting Albert Mason. This triggers the next cutscene where Arthur Morgan finishes his business with the photographer and moves on. Unfortunately for Red Dead Redemption 2 and the player, a wild bear bursts on to the scene and begins to brutally maul Morgan as the cutscene progresses. Thus leaving u/danilo043 to watch helplessly in horror.

Bears in Red Dead Redemption 2 can be one of the most difficult animals to handle. And that is without being held hostage but a cutscene and unable to defend oneself. These mounds of muscle can come barreling down out of nowhere and surprise players who are traveling through the woods. This clip shows just that but also tests the game's ability to cope with a cutscene and animal event like this.

The way in which Red Dead Redemption 2 handles cutscenes (by having the transition from regular gameplay to cutscene as fluid as possible) both creates this bear problem but also resolves it. The attempt at a seamless transition forces the cutscene to start when the player could have normally fought off the bear. But, even though this transition lead to some sheer terror, these transitions are a key part of the game.

These transitions are aimed at making the actions of the player seem more tied to the overarching narrative in Red Dead Redemption 2 and, with this title being one of the best selling video games of all time, it seems to have worked. Walking up to the next mission and having Arthur Morgan subtly take the reins from the player in Red Dead Redemption 2 is a treat for some players. Those extra details are often what helps a game feel more like reality.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
