Square Enix provided a brand new look at Life is Strange: True Colors during today's Square Enix Presents livestream, debuting a trailer that offers a closer look at Alex Chen's supernatural powers and the consequences of using them. The footage sets up intense decisions that players will have to make when the game hits PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on September 10.

The four minutes of new footage is narrated by Deck Nine Games' Zak Garriss, who explains that Alex's abilities mean she can read the feelings of others. As we saw in a recent look at Alex's opening scene, the protagonist sees it as a curse more than a gift, however, it will be integral to the investigation of her brothers' death during the game's campaign.

Players will be able to see into the minds of Haven Springs' residents throughout their time in Life is Strange: True Colors, with the power uncovering plenty of hidden secrets that will aid in their casework. It will also lead to major decisions, with the trailer showing one sequence where Alex can decide whether or not to expose a dark secret to another character's girlfriend. Much like previous iterations of the series, these will be a huge part of the adventure, with Garriss teasing they'll change the course of the narrative throughout the game.

However, the protagonist's abilities don't end there, as she also has the power to unleash a "nova" when diving into the head of someone overwhelmed with particularly strong emotions. This allows her to visualize their internal struggle and physically enter their headspace, with Garriss warning players that some will carry "a life-threatening amount of power."

The early look confirms that True Colors intends to expand on the seminal ideas of Life is Strange and Life is Strange 2, offering an authentic continuation of the series despite shifting developers. Where it will differ from prior games is its format, with the series ditching the episodic release schedule and delivering the full experience at launch. It'll mean players will be able to binge all the way through Alex's tale without any breaks.

Alongside True Colors, players will be able to revisit the original Life is Strange and its standalone prequel, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, through a remastered collection launching September 30. The re-release features new character animations, motion-captured performances, and improved lighting. Life is Strange: The Remastered Collection also got a trailer at the Square Enix Presents showcase, highlighting its story and various technical improvements.

Life is Strange: True Colors will be available September 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
