Players are able to claim and keep a popular Devolver Digital game free for a limited time thanks to a current sale taking place on Steam.

Free video games are a hard thing to pass up, as many digital storefronts can attest to. Giving away titles for free is a common tactic when trying to branch out and reach a larger audience, and this builds up goodwill with old fans. Free games are distributed through the Epic Games Store, Xbox, and PlayStation stores regularly, and Acid Nerve's Titan Souls on Steam is currently free-to-claim for a limited time.

Hot off the heels of Devolver Digital's E3 showcase, the publisher is hosting a sale on Steam. This includes many different indie hits from different developers, such as Croteam and DeadToast Entertainment. Titan Souls is a solid title to pad out a player's library if they are craving more difficult challenges. This deal is only temporary, as it will only last until June 15; the end of E3.

Titan Souls is a 2D, top-down indie action title with a simple premise: A nameless hero armed with only a bow and single arrow take on giant monsters. It's similar to other boss fight-heavy titles like Shadow of the Colossus, where the challenge is to exploit the weaknesses of these huge bossesPlayers could also compare it to Dark Souls, due to both its title and difficulty. The title has "mostly positive" recent reviews, alongside an average of 79 percent positive feedback according to Steam's user review tracker.

While many of Devolver Digital's games are on sale during E3, it also opens up pre-orders for new titles that will be releasing soon. One title that is being developed by Acid Nerve is Death's Door, an RPG that available now for pre-purchase that is going in a darker direction than Titan Souls.

Devolver Digital's sale brings to mind an ongoing debate between Steam and its competition. While there are a few titles already free-to-play, and multiple games on sale during the summer, very rarely does Steam give titles out for free. This is in contrast to one of its biggest competitors on the market, the Epic Games Store. While Steam is one of the biggest PC gaming giant distributors, Epic Games has a large part of the market through a few different strategies. One of these includes the distribution of free games every few months, which is a good incentive to bring customers back to shop.

Titan Souls is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PlayStation Vita, and free to claim on Steam until June 15.
