A Destiny 2 player has posted their math regarding how long it would take someone to earn everything from Season 14's Bright Engram.

As is the nature of MMOs, Destiny 2 offers a wide array of items available as drops each season. With Season 14 underway, a new set of items are available, and one Redditor has done the math to show the massive amount of time a player would need to sink into Destiny 2 in order to earn everything in Season 14's Bright Engram.

Engrams in Destiny 2 are unidentified loot items that players receive as drops from enemies or from completing content, these random drops can be identified by Tess Everis for a chance at some of the rare loot available in any given season. Destiny 2's Bright Engrams are a specific type of Engram only received by players who have reached max level, and for those looking to complete their collection, earning the rarer items from these Engrams is evidently a non-trivial task.

In a lengthy post on the Destiny subreddit, a user called Smegdawg has done some extensive math to show exactly how long it would take a player to actually earn everything available in the current season. The notion that Smegdawg attempts to raise with their post is that Destiny 2 should utilize a 'knockout list' for its Bright Engram system, where once an item is acquired, it cannot be acquired again, thus allowing players to continuously gain new items and have a better chance at earning the rarer drops.

The post points out that even with a knockout list in place, even if you were climbing 250 ranks per season, it would still take "4,145 Ranks to earn all of the 829 Cosmetic Items," and approximately 16.5 seasons or "roughly 4 years" to earn every item available in Destiny 2's Season 14 Engram. Smegdawg suggests that while they already have 2389 hours spent in Destiny 2, they would still need to earn 685 ranks to unlock the remaining 137 items they require, and this if the proposed knockout list was already implemented.

Many MMOs are infamous for their grindy gameplay, however, the sheer amount of time required to collect all of Destiny 2's season 14 items is evidently a little excessive for some players. Notably, the numbers listed by Smegdawg are all with a knockout list in place, meaning that the numbers are even higher than suggested. Smegdawg does concede that all of the math was done manually, and therefore there is some room for error, but even ballpark figures of this kind may be off-putting for new Destiny 2 players. As suggested in the post, the knockout list may actually boost Destiny 2's player numbers, making it more enticing for those new to the franchise and giving players already grinding a reason to stick it out until the end of the season.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light and the new Season of the Splicer are available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
