Interesting story and location details about the rumored Resident Evil: Outrage emerges just hours ahead of Capcom's E3 2021 showcase.

Capcom recently released Resident Evil Village to immensely positive reception, but it doesn't seem like it's the only Resident Evil game coming out this year. The long-rumored Resident Evil: Outrage that first leaked during Capcom's data breach last year is yet again under the spotlight, as new details regarding the game's plot, location, and its protagonist have surfaced.

According to the popular Resident Evil insider, Dusk Golem, the development of Resident Evil: Outrage started as the third entry in the Resident Evil Revelations series, though it seems the developers decided on a different name altogether. Golem has since then mentioned plenty of times that the game would feature fan-favorite Rebecca Chambers as the main protagonist and that it would be a timed exclusive on Nintendo Switch.

While Capcom has yet to confirm the existence of Resident Evil: Outrage, new story details do all but confirm this next installment in the Resident Evil franchise. Biohazardcast's Jessedoeshorror posted a hefty article on the rumors surrounding Resident Evil: Outrage, as well as shed light on an alleged one-hour-long playtest for the game that took place last year.

The playtest called "Investigation" reportedly takes place in a university where Rebecca is investigating a new virus. The demo explores the different parts of the university including a courtyard and a library. As it turns out, the students and professors have been infected and use "school-based" weapons such as scissors to attack Rebecca. The infected, it seems, shows similar traits as the Majini from Resident Evil 5. The playtest apparently ends after Rebecca enters an office and is rendered unconscious by a mysterious man.

Interestingly the plot of Resident Evil: Outrage is highly reminiscent of that of BioHazard The Stage, a Japanese play that was first performed in late 2015. As Jesse points out, this could be Capcom's way of retelling the play's story through a game, although all of this is still a rumor and should be taken with a  grain of salt.

The rumor also mentions that Resident Evil: Outrage is played from a third-person perspective, unlike Resident Evil Village, and is being developed on the RE Engine. The game will supposedly be announced at Capcom's E3 2021 showcase with a fall 2021 release window, though it could change given the impact of the ongoing pandemic.

If Resident Evil: Outrage is in fact in real, and a timed switch exclusive, then fans could expect a reveal trailer during Capcom's E3 2021 showcase today with a full-blown gameplay walkthrough at tomorrow's Nintendo Direct event. However, as mentioned before, all of this should be taken with a huge grain of salt though fans won't have to wait much longer to find out.

Resident Evil: Outrage is rumored to be in development.
