Fallen Aces is a 'Crime Noir FPS,' combining the aesthetics of a gritty 1920's noir with the classic retro-inspired shooter gameplay by New Blood.

Formally revealed during the E3 Indie Showcase to a public audience, New Blood's Fallen Aces is a gritty first-person action title expressed as a "Crime Noir FPS," taking cues from games such as Max PayneLA Noire, and XIII, the classic cel-shaded FPS released originally in 2003. As a "crime noir," players can expect gloom and deception as they fight for survival.

Featuring a protagonist who returns to the seedy underbelly of an early 1900's city, the player must fight their way through several lackeys and crime bosses through buildings and dilapidated alleys. While the atmosphere harkens to a specific time period, the gameplay retains classic shooter elements like the original Doom, with surprisingly modern mechanics blended in.

As players engage with various enemies, the action focuses more on melee weapons and hand-to-hand combat, including instances where the player can interact with the environment including kicking enemies into a moving trolley. While the game seems to focus more on close-quarter fights within a tight space, gunplay also remains an integral element in gameplay when the time calls for it.

Various elements featured in the trailer include stealth mechanics and the protagonist carrying someone over their shoulder with one hand while fighting off gangsters with the other. The combination between classic cel-shaded art styles and retro-inspired first-person shooters with modern gameplay mechanics brings Fallen Aces as a potential modern classic that players will need to look out for.

Fallen Aces will release on PC, release date TBA.
