Slice-of-life anime has an extraordinary way of hitting home with audiences within the large universe of anime by extolling the virtues of an uncomplicated life. Far from the "shōnen," "shoujo," or "seinen" overflowing with fantastic battles and astonishing plots, slice-of-life anime presents stories that any viewer can feel at ease with. They are the "common person's" stories from movies, books, or plays. And while shōnen or action-packed anime narratives can be quite astounding in their level of craft, slice-of-life anime is usually a lot more cozy; you don't necessarily need to blow the minds of your audience with narrative tricks and emotional payoffs when your main characters are only just trying to get on with their day.
