Nintendo reveals a new look at Shin Megami Tensei 5 during its E3 Direct, showing gameplay and confirming it'll launch later this year.

During Nintendo's E3 2021 Direct, the company showed off more of Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei 5, detailing the upcoming RPG's story and revealing brand new gameplay. The trailer also included an official release date for the game, confirming it'll make its way to the Nintendo Switch on November 12.

Shin Megami Tensei 5's setup will already sound very familiar to fans of the series, with the footage revealing it follows the tale of a high school student who's mysteriously transported to a realm of angels and demons. Merging with a cryptic figure who emerges from a beam in the sky, the protagonist quickly amasses the power to fight the monsters that lurk in this eerie alternate version of Tokyo, with the clip switching to a packed gameplay showcase.

Players will venture through this apocalyptic dimension, battling enemies in turn-based encounters by using their newfound abilities to exploit their weaknesses. As has become a fixture of the Shin Megami Tensei series, players will also be able to recruit foes into their party, negotiating with monsters. One of these discussions is highlighted during the trailer, with the protagonist offering a portion of her life in exchange for its alliance.

Much like in Atlus' prior games, they'll then be able to fuse these creatures to make even more powerful demons, exploiting their advanced abilities in combat. Overall, the fifth entry seems to be expanding upon all the systems that made Shin Megami Tensei such a beloved series. It's definitely one to watch ahead of its debut later this year.

Shin Megami Tensei is coming to Nintendo Switch on November 12, 2021.
