The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will apparently have its own subtitle, but Nintendo plans to keep that name a secret for now.

Nintendo is keeping the official title for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 a secret, and fans will have to wait to find out the game's real title. This reveal by Nintendo suggests that, like with prior games in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2's name will involve something key to the story.

After an initial teaser trailer back in June 2019 and the promise of news about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 in 2021, fans hoped to see a new trailer for the game during E3 2021's Nintendo Direct, and they were not disappointed. A new trailer was shown in the last moments of the Nintendo Direct, and speculation about the game has already begun.

This information comes from an interview between IGN and Nintendo Treehouse’s Bill Trinen and Nate Bihldorff. According to the Nintendo Treehouse representatives, the new entry in The Legend of Zelda series currently uses the subtitle "Breath of the Wild 2", but the game will have its own unique title. IGN quotes Bill Trinen as saying, “As for why we’re holding back on the name, you’ll just have to stay tuned because, obviously, Zelda names are kind of important.” It seems like Nintendo wishes to create an air of mystery around this highly anticipated game, as it has already been discovered that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2's new trailer has a hidden secret.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 new trailer is mysterious and raises more questions about the game's narrative than it answers. It certainly seems like Nintendo is holding back as much information as possible to allow for more surprises about the game. In a way, the original The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a rare case of a Legend of Zelda game's subtitle not referencing a key part of the game in its title. Previous titles have referenced key items in the game, such as The Ocarina of Time and The Windwaker, or key figures like Majora's Mask or Twilight Princess. So, if The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is returning to this convention, it makes sense that Nintendo is keeping it quiet for now.

Unfortunately, it seems that the naming convention is not the only concept Nintendo is using again. As The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 looks to place Princess Zelda in need of rescue once more. However, it does seem like Nintendo really cares about the story it wishes to tell with this game, and maybe they will seek to surprise fans with Zelda's role in the story.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2022.
