The goal in Genshin Impact has always been the mass murder of meddlesome creatures. Be it those poor Hilichurls, troublesome Fatui, or wretched Ruin Guards, slaying them quickly and in legions is a player's bread and butter in the game. That's why DPS or carry characters are the most celebrated kind in Genshin Impact.

They make RPG min-maxing or leveling a lot easier. Of course, there's also the fact that they grant digital feelings of power we otherwise wouldn't be able to attain in real life. When it comes to being a DPS in Genshin Impact though, the competition is fierce among these top contenders. In order to make them competitive agents of genocide, then one must also learn how to pilot them.
Updated June 16, 2021 by Sid Natividad: Genshin Impact's DPS character roster only gets more crowded with each new update. As it is, several of the latest addition's 4-stars and 5-stars have shaken up the power hierarchy in the game, prompting many streamers to flex each DPS character's potential. That can often lead to players wondering how to pull a character's most optimal rotation to match just a fraction of what the streamers were capable of. So here are some additional certified DPS or sub-DPS characters, and how to get the most out of them.
15 Xingqiu
Best strategy: rain sword attacks intermixed with normal attacks after the Elemental Burst
Liyue's resident bookworm and Richie Rich, Xingqiu also takes on a more supportive role, especially for pyro characters. However, he has proven that he can be a reliable DPS as well when given a 2-piece Heart of the Depths artifact set and a 2-piece Noblesse Oblige. A hydro damage goblet is ideal.
Xingqiu's rotation is pretty standard. Players just need to activate his Elemental Burst and then keep attacking. He's decent by himself, but pairing him with a pyro character like Xiangling is even better, since it allows him to produce Vaporize reactions.
14 Eula
Best strategy: Elemental Burst followed immediately by a mix of normal attacks and Elemental Skill
Eula is the latest DPS character in the game and also one of the DPS characters who shook up the META. Players using her will want a 4-piece Pale Flame set with a physical damage goblet. Eula's bread and butter is her Elemental Burst, which deals delayed but huge damage (6 digits) effortlessly. Players need to build her around that ability.
To get the most damage out of her Elemental Burst, Eula should use her Elemental Skill (tap) and then unleash the Burst. After that, she'll have a 7-second window to do 4 normal attacks, another Elemental Skill (hold), and another 4 normal attacks. All those will increase the damage of her delayed Elemental Burst until it pops off.
13 Yanfei
Best Strategy: Use charged attacks after using her Elemental Burst and Skill, while the latter two are on cooldown
Yanfei is another relatively recent character that made some ripples in the current META, but not quite enough to dethrone 5-star pyro DPS characters. Still, like most other pyro DPS characters, Yanfei thrives on having a 4-piece Crimson Witch of Flames with a pyro damage goblet.
It's most optimal to pair Yanfei with hydro support like Xingqiu. Once players have applied the hydro status effect using Xingqiu's rain swords, Yanfei can use her Elemental Burst and Skill, then resort to charged attacks while both are on cooldown.
12 Rosaria
Best Strategy: Melt elemental reactions from her Elemental Burst and Skill, along with a pyro support
Choosing how to pilot Rosaria is a bit more complicated, since she has many roles which are viable. For the DPS role, however, players will want her equipped with either a 4-piece Blizzard Strayer set or 2 of those and 2 of Noblesse Oblige. A cryo damage goblet is also great.
To make her do her best damage, Rosaria will have to rely on reverse melt, where cryo will trigger the melt reactions. To do this, Xiangling's Elemental Burst must be activated first. Rosario will lay down her Elemental Burst afterward, and then the Elemental Skill. She'll then do continuous reserve melt reactions.
11 Xiangling
Best Strategy: elemental reactions (melt/vaporize) using her Elemental Burst
Speaking of Xiangling, this pyro support can prove that she's a DPS carry herself. Since she's a pyro character, she'll want the 4-piece Crimson Witch of Flames set with a pyro damage goblet.
For her highest damage output, players will want to pair Xiangling with a hydro support like Xingqiu for a reverse vaporize, or maybe even Kaeya for melt. Have those supports fire off their cryo or hydro (either, not both) Elemental Burst before activating Xiangling's Elemental Burst. Watching the enemies burn.
10 Razor
Best strategy: fast normal attacks after his Elemental Burst
Often considered by many players as an honorary 5-star character, Razor is a good character to have in the early-to-mid game. He tends to fall off in the late game though but remains viable in content like the Spiral Abyss. Utilizing Razor is pretty straightforward, just keep using his Elemental Burst and keep topping up the energy required for it.
That's easy enough, as his Elemental Skill can charge up his Energy quickly. Razor at his best mostly relies on pure physical damage so a goblet artifact piece that grants that bonus is mandatory. For the best artifact set, players will want a full Gladiator's Finale for him. For his talents, it's best to prioritize leveling the Normal Attack and Elemental Burst.
9 Keqing
Best strategy: charged attacks before pulling off her Elemental Burst
Keqing is in a tight spot right now since the Electro Element is considered the weakest in the game at the moment. However, she's by no means a bad character. To get the most out of her, make sure to give her a 2-piece Gladiator's Finale and a 2-piece Thundering Fury artifact set. An Electro Damage goblet piece is also necessary.

When playing, the main source of damage is usually the Charged Attacks. They're fast, and their whose can easily be canceled for quick repetitions. Thus, Keqing needs to avoid using her stamina for runnin. This is where her Elemental Skill comes into play; it lets her close the gap easily. Meanwhile, her Elemental Burst is recommended for multiple enemies as its single-target damage is not that good.
8 Ningguang
Best Strategy: use mainly normal attacks intermixed with charged attacks
Thanks to the Geo buff, Ningguang is actually more powerful than Keqing. Players only need a 2-piece Gladiator's Finale and a 2-piece Archaic Petra on her, along with a Geo damage goblet. She excels best at dealing single-target damage.
To get that much mileage, it's recommended to weave in some Charged Attacks between her Normal Attacks. A Charged Attack after every two Normal Attacks should do to make good use of her Star Jades. Meanwhile, her Elemental Skill is a lovely defensive tool and her Elemental Burst is a decent panic button.
7 Zhongli
Best strategy: use either Elemental Burst spamming or physical normal attacks for damage
Zhongli was originally meant to be a support, but he's also a DPS now thanks to multiple buffs. If players want a DPS version of him, abusing his Elemental Burst meteor is the main tactic. It can easily reach 100,000 damage with a 2-piece Archaic Petra and a 2-piece Noblesse Oblige. As usual, an elemental damage goblet is mandatory (Geo for Zhongli).

The gameplay is pretty straightforward for this maximum potential build. Players need to activate his Jade Shield by holding down the Elemental Skill key, and then using the Elemental Burst once the enemies come close enough. The Elemental Burst cooldown is low enough for Zhongli to spam it repeatedly, ensuring that enemies don't move and take 5-6 digits of damage every few seconds.
6 Diluc
Best strategy: Elemental Skill spamming and Elemental Burst when off-cooldown
For a DPS even more blunt and uncomplicated than Zhongli, look no further than Diluc, the first 5-star. Give him a 4-piece Crimson Witch of Flames with a Pyro damage goblet and a Crit-stat circlet, and have him spam his Elemental Skill before using his Elemental Burst. Afterward, he can resort to weaving in his Pyro-infused Normal Attacks with his Elemental Skill until his Burst is ready.
To deal more damage, pair Diluc with Xingqiu. That's the bare minimum for team Diluc. Simply activate Xingqiu's Elemental Burst before doing any Pyro damage with Diluc for that sweet Vaporize reaction. Other buffs include Bennett's Elemental Burst, and Sucrose or Venti equipped with 4-piece Viridescent Venerer for some Pyro Swirl debuff against enemies.
5 Tartaglia
Best strategy: use normal attacks after his Elemental Skill along with Elemental Burst when off-cooldown
Tartaglia's playstyle isn't unlike Diluc's. He also relies on Vaporize for maximum damage. Thus, he needs consistent Pyro support such as Xiangling, who can burn enemies using her Pyronado. Once they're burned, players can easily mow down enemies with Tartaglia's Hydro melee sword attacks. For the highest damage numbers, use his Elemental Burst to trigger Vaporize.

For Tartaglia to achieve this, he needs an artifact set consisting of a 4-piece Heart of Depth with a Hydro damage goblet. His bow damage is a bit lackluster, and many players resort to using his melee stance for more devastating payloads.
4 Klee
Best strategy: use charged attacks after her Elemental Skill and Burst
Speaking of payloads and bombs, Klee has dethroned Diluc for higher Pyro damage. She also relies on a 4-piece Crimson Witch of Flames, but her highest damage potential comes from her Charged Attacks. She specializes in area Pyro damage, so pairing her with Mona or Diona for Vaporize or Melt is the best way to do it.
Bennett is also necessary for her team. Set up the killing field by using Klee's Elemental Skill mines. After that, lay down Bennett's Elemental Burst and then Diona or Mona's Hydro or Cryo fields/abilities. Klee's Charged Attack will do quick work of any enemy left standing.
3 Xiao
Best Strategy: use plunge attacks when his Elemental Burst is activated
Xiao is another fun character to use, but a lot less safe thanks to his low regard for personal safety. Slap on a 2-piece Gladiator's Finale and a 2-piece Viridescent Venerer to reach his maximum potential. After that, it's a matter of doing plunging attacks after activating his Elemental Burst. Make sure to weave in some Elemental Skills between those plunging attacks.

The problem is that Xiao isn't Energy efficient on his own to maximize his Burst. His team has to have an Anemo battery like Jean, Sucrose, or Venti. Have those characters perform their Skills or Bursts, and then switch back to Xiao to get the Anemo Energy orbs.
2 Hu Tao
Best strategy: use charged attacks after activating her Elemental Skill, and Elemental Burst once the Skill is over
Hu Tao currently holds the record for the highest damage number ever. To get to that point, she'll need a 4-piece Crimson Witch of Flames with a Pyro goblet as well. Additionally, to increase her damage, her HP needs to be below 30 percent. Give Hu Tao Xingqiu's Elemental Burst, then activate her Elemental Skill.
Once Hu Tao's polearm is infused with Pyro, have her do Charged Attacks against enemies for multiple Vaporize instances. Once her Energy is full, use her Elemental Burst (assuming she still has access to a Hydro applicator) to deal six digits of damage or more. The Burst is bad for multiple targets, so it's best used for bosses. Also, it heals Hu Tao, so find a way to get her HP back down to less than 30 percent.
1 Ganyu
Best strategy: use plenty of charged attacks
As for the DPS god in Genshin Impact, nothing beats Ganyu in terms of Spiral Abyss speedruns. She's also the simplest DPS to play right now. All she needs is a 4-piece Wanderer's Troupe or 4-piece Blizzard Strayer set either of which should include a Cryo goblet.
To destroy enemies, do some level 2 Charged Shots at enemies and watch their corpses shatter in ice. No team setup needed. Just make sure to prioritize Ganyu's Normal Attack talent. If players want even more damage, pair her with Xiangling for Pyronado and let Ganyu do some six-digit Melt damage every two seconds. At that point, the game becomes almost too easy.
