Players of Red Dead Redemption 2 have become accustomed to the wild and weird encounters scattered around its world. There are strange ritual sites, ferocious animals, and even remnants of giants in this recreation of the American wild west. But u/Gorillabase found something even stranger than all that: a horse that can walk on water.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was released back in 2018 and, like its predecessor, mixes mystery with gritty reality. But just like other major releases, this game has had its share of glitches and bugs. These issues have led to even stranger encounters for unwitting players. This clip is one such event that definitely wasn't originally coded into the game as a normal encounter.

U/Gorillabase took to the Red Dead Redemption subreddit to show what they deem as the horse version of Jesus. The player finds a rogue wagon horse floating in the river and attempts to retrieve it. All goes well with regard to the mounting until, quite unexpectedly, their Marston hops up with the horse and then falls through the horse and back into the river. The character then disappears out of sight and it almost looks as though u/Gorillabase is now in control of the horse. The horse then walks on top of the water in the river and back towards the riverbank to safety, where Marston reappears.

This glitch seems to confuse the action of climbing on to a horse and what is and is not solid. When John Marston falls through the animal, it seems as though it reasserts his solid nature afterwards and has the horse basically walk on top of the player character. This gives it the appearance of walking on the water. Glitches like this happen from time to time especially with more ambitious titles. Fortunately, judging from the subreddit's reaction, Red Dead Redemption 2 is far from plagued by these issues.

Horses and realism in Red Dead Redemption 2 are often a point of contention with players. The game's emphasis on realism allows players to affect their horse's health and behavior. This is great for those looking to be more involved in the small details and feel as though their choices and decisions matter. In general this realism has helped push the game to great success.

But that emphasis on realism also makes moments like this glitch even more jarring for players. The contrast between the realistic gun shot wounds in-game and a horse walking on water is quite dramatic and can take players right out of the world. Fortunately though that mix of realism and occasional bugs has led to a great formula for laughter. That is what makes Red Dead Redemption 2 clips such as this one so enjoyable to watch.
