The Fena: Pirate Princess cast was announced along with the release of a new trailer and more details from Crunchyroll and Adult Swim.

A risky overseas voyage and a prophesized fate face the young and innocent Fena in Crunchyroll and Adult Swim's upcoming anime series Fena: Pirate Princess. On June 16th, Crunchyroll released exclusive information on the anticipated anime including behind-the-scenes images, cast details, and a new official trailer.

Crunchyroll says the show will center around "positive" and "cheerful" orphan Fena. Unfortunately, she cannot recall much of her childhood before she began working as a servant in a brothel. As she grows and her age becomes a threat to the brothel, a marriage is arranged for the young girl. In an attempt to escape her marriage, Fena escapes to an island of pirates, where she is faced with the reality of her childhood and family history. In a struggle to escape those that wish to harm her, she takes her destined place in her father's footsteps as captain of a bold and talented Samurai crew.

The short official Fena: Pirate Princess trailer, released by Crunchyroll, is a litany of contradicting images. Shots of the pale, beautiful, silver-haired Fena are juxtaposed with strong images of explosions, violence, and gore of the pirate lifestyle. Sharp contrasts in animation style further differentiate the characters, with the titular heroine drawn in a soft and beautiful style, similar to Violet Evergreen, while more sinister characters are drawn more harshly in a style similar to Attack on Titan.

Fena: Pirate Princess features talented Japanese director Kazuto Nakazawa, known for Parasite Dolls and the anime sequence in Kill Bill: Vol. 1. Fena herself will be voiced by Asami Seto of Jujutsu Kaisen. Additional voice actors among Fena's crew include her family member Yukimaru (Ryota Suzuki), warrior Shitan (Takahiro Sakurai), tech geek Karin (Aoi Yuuki), and mischievous twin fighters Enju (Gen Sato) and Kaede (Ryota Osaka), among others. Crunchyroll released sketches and behind-the-scenes images of these characters and more, all of which can be found on their website.

Since 2019, when Crunchyroll and Adult Swim made a deal to team together on new creative works, the two have announced numerous projects such as the animated series Blade Runner: Black Lotus and more that have yet to come out. Adult Swim's anime has earned more respect over the years, with creative direction on new shows like Uzumaki. With Adult Swim's popular late-night Toonami TV program, the alliance gives fans more access to new and old anime shows. Fena: Pirate Princess is no exception and will be one of the first shows to be released under the duo.

Fena: Pirate Princess will stream on Adult Swim (dubbed) and Crunchyroll (with subtitles) this Summer.
