Destiny 2 players are reasonably upset with the developer's recent decision to implement a drastic cost increase for shaders.

The Destiny 2 community is voicing its frustration with the recent cost increase of shaders within the game. What used to be obtainable with a small amount of Bright Dust has been marked up in a big way. In a post on Reddit, users are attempting to rationalize Bungie's decision to squeeze further players for this resource.

The cost of shaders in Destiny 2 used to be a reasonable 40 Bright Dust, but to coincide with the new transmog system, Bungie upped the cost by a whopping 650%. Now, players must choose their purchases wisely, as one shader now goes for 300 Bright Dust. While players took umbrage with this change when it was first implemented a while back, Reddit user u/AngryMrMaxwell has reintroduced the issue to the online forum, calling it, "irredeemably awful."

Many of the comments are in agreement, noting that while some players have immense stores of Bright Dust, others do not. Those that have been saving the currency would rather spend it on bigger cosmetic items anyway, such as the upcoming Solstice of Heroes glowing armor ornaments. Bungie has begun to sell shaders for Silver, so the most logical conclusion is that the company is trying to drain Bright Dust from players so they are more tempted to spend real money. Regardless of Bungie's reasoning, to players, increasing the cost of Destiny 2 shaders feels superficial and unnecessary.

The community has a lot to say about the way Bungie has been running things in the game lately, especially after a specific preview at E3 2021. Players have become jealous of Halo Infinite's battle pass approach, and their reasoning is sound. Seasons in Destiny 2 severely limit content if players aren't actively involved, and once the season is over, the rewards go with it. Halo Infinite allows for much more flexibility. When players buy a battle pass, it's around permanently and older passes are always available to purchase. This means rewards can be obtained at any time, which eliminates the persistent feelings of FOMO Destiny 2 players are very familiar with.

In other Destiny 2 news, the game has implemented a new week of content that brings players one step closer to the final confrontation with Savathûn, the Witch Queen. Since her name also happens to be the title of the game's next big expansion, the community has known for a while that this showdown was imminent. This week, players can obtain Corrupted Key Codes, which unlock Corrupted Conflux Chests at the end of new Corrupted Expunge missions. These are slightly more difficult versions of existing Expunge missions and they're a great new way to earn high-stat gear.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
