While Rift Apart is an excellent game, fans and critics alike have noticed it has some issues that deserve to be fixed.

It’s been a while since the PS5 last had a true exclusive to hit the platform. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart must seem like a godsend for fans of the console eagerly waiting for something new to play. It has also been a while since the last game in this series came out which was in 2016 on the PS4.

The wait, it seems, was worth it as this game is getting fairly high praise from both the press and fans. It is a technical achievement for the console thanks to the load times, sleek visuals, and action RPG gameplay. It is not perfect though and Insomniac could, and should, patch in a few of these things to make the experience just a tad better.

10 Add Manual Saves

This game has six slots for save files which is a good thing to start. The game is also very good about using autosave and checkpointing players in good positions so that they don’t have to repeat sections much. There is a downside to this in that it does not allow manual saves. For a game like this that is strange considering again that it has six save slots. Adding in this feature would be much appreciated.

9 Alternatives To Skipping

One of the best things about the game is that players can skip puzzle sections. There are puzzles involving Clank going into pocket dimensions along with a computer AI, Glitch, shooting down viruses. When this option is selected to skip, it skips the whole section. Some players might just be stuck on one area of the puzzle and would just like a hint instead. Dividing out how the skip button works would be nice.

8 Other Sections Need To Be Skipped

The accessibility options don’t stop with the skip button. There is also a very easy difficulty called Rookie Explorer that makes it so players can’t die in combat. They can die by falling in pits which can be just as frustrating.

Some players lack the finesse to get around some of the time trial racing sections so adding in an option to skip these areas would be great. At that point, some may say players should “git gud” or not play at all but that’s a poor mentality. Video games should be inviting and by all accounts, Insomniac did try.

7 Add FPS Mode

Some games in the series allowed for players to go into a first-person perspective while in combat. This helped with aiming some guns to be more precise. That option does not appear in this game and has not appeared in general for the series in many years. It would be great to see it return with a patch for this game, but as that is pretty complicated for a patch that might be something to consider for the inevitable sequel instead.

6 Add Co-Op

This game series has only had a standard version of co-op once via Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One on the PS3 in 2011. That game featured four-player co-op which was great despite the game being buggy. There have been other games featuring multiplayer to be clear though.

Since Ratchet and Rivet have the same guns and moves, it would make sense to allow at least two players to co-op in this game somehow. One addition Insomniac could add in an update could feature the arena with a special online mode.

5 Fix The Audio

This game is relatively bug-free except in one instance: the audio. The music cues and sound effects seem to not be affected. It’s just the voiced audio that can get scrambled.

For example, two characters talking in the environment could then get into a cutscene with the audio still going on from the other conversation. Conversations can also be one-sided with the other character getting cut out completely.

4 Player Skins

This game series is infamous for having unique skins that can unlock in the campaigns. This could range from Ratchet getting turned into something generic like a snowman or another character from the series. This game kind of has that via armor sets but it’s not the same thing. It would be great to see more special skins added. There are skins to get for the ships and weapons but nothing truly outstanding for Ratchet and Rivet which is a shame.

3 DLC Into Other PlayStation Universes

Insomniac seemingly decided to play with fire when they showcased this game having the ability to go into different dimensions. Fans were excited at the idea that this could be a way to see other Sony franchises jump into this series in some form. Could it be the Kingdom Hearts of Sony? Sadly that did not work out except for some Easter Egg nods but it’s not too late for DLC additions to like Jak and Daxter’s world for example.

2 Add More Guns

There are twenty weapons in this game that are unlocked via the story as well as through vendor purchases. All of them are projectile in some form. None of them feature a classic melee alternative to Ratchet’s wrench for example. Other games in the series had special melee weapons like an electric whip. It would be great to see more weapons in an update especially melee weapons like that.

1 Add A Theater Mode

It’s been said before but it deserves to be said numerous times over. Playing through this game, and others in the series, feels like an interactive Pixar film. The graphics are top-notch especially when it comes to the cutscenes. It would be great if fans could watch these cutscenes whenever they wanted via a theater mode. Other games like Kingdom Hearts have this feature so it’s not a request that seems impossible to wish for.
