It has been several days since Capcom presented at E3 2021. Although the studio did announce a DLC expansion for Resident Evil Village and the release date of Re: Verse, all the Resident Evil community continues to talk about is the rumored game Resident Evil: Outrage.

While Capcom did not confirm the existence of Resident Evil: Outrage yet, the rumors are compelling, especially since it originated from the huge leak last year after Capcom's servers were hacked. However, some fans can't help but wonder whether Resident Evil: Outrage will finally see the return of series veteran Jill Valentine in a new game. Unfortunately, it appears now that Jill appearing in the rumored game is unlikely, and here are the reasons why.

Just hours before Capcom's E3 Presentation last Monday, new rumors about Resident Evil: Outrage surfaced online. According to the website Biohazard Cast, Resident Evil: Outrage will see Rebecca Chambers back in action. For new fans of the series, Rebecca Chambers was a member of the STARS Bravo Team and is the main protagonist of Resident Evil Zero and a supporting character in the first Resident Evil game.

The 2002 remake of Resident Evil was the last game players saw Rebecca Chambers. However, she did appear in several Mercenaries games, a Resident Evil play, and the CGI movie Resident Evil Vendetta. According to rumors, Resident Evil: Outrage is set in a university where Rebecca investigates a new virus. However, she soon finds herself in a tight situation after learning that most of the people in the university are now infected with the new virus and displays uncontrollable rage, which fits the Outrage subtitle of the rumored game.

Although Rebecca and Jill are somewhat connected via STARS, both characters never interacted in front of the camera despite being present during the Mansion incident in Resident Evil. Unfortunately for Jill Valentine fans, the rumors never mentioned or referenced Ms. Valentine, which strongly suggests that she won't be present in this game. However, rumors claim that Rebecca won't be the sole protagonist of Resident Evil: Outrage, given that she will be joined by Leon Kennedy.

Another reason why Jill Valentine is unlikely to be featured in Resident Evil: Outrage is because she was already the main protagonist of the first Resident Evil Revelations game. It is worth noting that despite having a different title, leakers revealed that Resident Evil: Outrage will be the third main installment in the Revelations sub-series, though this is yet to be confirmed by Capcom.

Since the Revelations series began in 2012, the first two games always featured a female character as the main protagonist. As previously mentioned, the first Revelations game starred Jill Valentine with Chris Redfield as support. The second one saw Claire Redfield from Resident Evil 2 take the lead alongside the new character Moira Burton, the daughter of former STARS member Barry Burton. Given the pattern established by the first two games, it makes sense that the third entry will see the return of another female veteran character who has never appeared in a Revelations game before.

Most Resident Evil fans would probably agree that among all the protagonists featured in Resident Evil's 25 years, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon Kennedy, and Claire Redfield are considered the most popular. But, unfortunately, it is no secret that Capcom appears to have neglected Jill in the past few years, given that her current status in the game's timeline remains a mystery. Although she did reappear in 2020's Resident Evil 3, that game was just a retelling of her escape from Raccoon City.

The most recent appearance of Jill Valentine based on Resident Evil's timeline was in Resident Evil 5, set in the year 2009. The only thing we know about Jill after the events of RE5 is that she is undergoing rehabilitation after spending years under Albert Wesker's control. Although it has been a long time since Jill appeared in a new Resident Evil game, there is reason to believe that Capcom is setting her up for something bigger, probably a mainline game. It is worth remembering that it was never revealed how Jill eventually coped with the trauma after unwillingly serving as Wekser's slave (apart from a short email to Barry Burton saying she's okay), and this could be an interesting plotline to explore.

Not to mention, the 2020 remake of RE3 is a perfect reminder that Jill was infected with the T-Virus, but didn't succumb to the infection after being injected with a vaccine by Carlos. However, it is worth remembering that the remnants of the virus remained dormant in Jill's body, as Wesker discovered in RE5. Thus, Jill's story may be far from over, and Capcom is just waiting for the perfect time to see her return and possibly explore the consequences of her infection and the trauma she suffered at the hands of Wesker.
