A Destiny 2 player discovers a curious glitch in the Vault of Glass raid that allows its users to avoid being teleported by Atheon.

The updated Vault of Glass raid has been available in Destiny 2 for just under a month. Many of the raid's secrets have been discovered and players are growing more confident in their strategies for its completion. Now it's just a matter of optimization, as Destiny 2 raid fireteams figure out ways to make their runs faster. Sometimes that can involve breaking the game, for example with a newly discovered Vault of Glass glitch that may seem useless but could be used productively in the future.

YouTuber AntarcticWildlife shared a video in which they performed a flawless run of the Vault of Glass encounter with Atheon, the raid's final boss, with one player on the fireteam staying on their Sparrow for the majority of the encounter - only stepping down to throw up a Titan barricade to block enemy fire. Doing this revealed a surprising glitch, as the Sparrow-mounted player couldn't be teleported by Atheon.

There's nothing fancy to the glitch. Atheon goes through phases in which they teleport several players through time. Simply sitting on a Sparrow appears to prevent a player from being teleported. Instead, the animation for being teleported plays, but the player remains seated on their Sparrow. The Atheon teleportation is still executed for other players in the fireteam.

This glitch doesn't have any immediately apparent usefulness, but Destiny 2 players are notably creative with glitches. The glitch may not help for a basic Vault of Glass run, but there are self-imposed challenges where such a glitch could lead to something fun for fans to watch.

In a Reddit thread where AntarcticWildlife calls attention to the glitch, many different Destiny 2 players respond saying they will be trying to execute it with their friends, just for the sake of doing it. Part of the intrigue is that getting a Sparrow to Atheon in the first place is a challenge, but another part is it presents an opportunity to experiment with the encounter. One glitch can lead to another, after all.

The Destiny 2 Raid Secrets subreddit is full of newly discovered glitches from the Vault of Glass. These include glitches that teleport players to the start of the raid, cheese strats for Vault of Glass encounters, and applications of the Warlock "yeet glitch" for fun. There's something about glitches and exploits that keeps many Destiny 2 players coming back to have fun breaking the game, so it will be interesting to see if something comes out of this Atheon glitch.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
