Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies’ intel is full of major revelations, but the most intriguing bits discuss Omega’s mole inside Requiem.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies fans have no shortage of lore to dig into, as each Season adds new collectibles that progress the story in significant ways. A lot of this Zombies intel has been used to set up story threads for Mauer Der Toten, ranging from the return of the Nazis to the fate of Eddie. However, one topic worthy of more discussion is the mole inside Requiem, something that has been hinted at in several cyphers, documents, and audio logs.

For those that are invested in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies storyline, the identity of this mole has been getting more and more interesting as time has gone one. With a reveal seemingly right around the corner, looking at who is most and least likely to be the mole could help fans set their expectations. While nothing is confirmed, and Treyarch could deliver a real shocker with its mole reveal, there are two candidates that are particularly strong options for the position. With some characters unlikely to be involved with Omega as well, fans also have an idea of who they can rule out.

Right out the gate, players can rule out Zombies protagonist Samantha Maxis. While no one would see this twist coming, it would be a surprise just for the sake of having one. Not only has Sam destroyed the Operatsiya Inversiya missiles in the first Outbreak quest, but she has also been captured by Omega and forced to enter the Dark Aether for a long period of time. As such, nobody has a bigger reason to hate Omega, and Sam seems more determined than ever to foil the group’s plans.

Dr. Grey is another character that players can rule out, as the scientist is simply too kind to be a turncoat. With intel seeing her share her sadness after sending monkeys to the Dark Aether during Outbreak’s Escort missions, it is hard to imagine she would sign off on all the killing done by Omega. With such a positive attitude, there is no real scenario where she would make sense as a villain. On top of this, she has no motive to turn on Requiem, as all she wants to do is study the Dark Aether.

Weaver is an interesting option, as the character has a past with Russia. As revealed in the original Black Ops campaign, Weaver was a double agent, feigning his allegiance to the Soviet Union so that he could feed the CIA intel. This both supports and disproves the idea that he could be the mole, as he could be a triple agent that was helping Russia from the get-go. After all, he was born there, ensuring that his ties to the country run deep. At the same time, the Russians would likely be unwilling to trust Weaver after his previous betrayal, making it hard to believe that he could switch sides.

However, the real dealbreaker for Weaver being a surprise villain is the fact that he is so close with Samantha. It is unlikely that he would turn on the tortured hero, as the pair’s stories are deeply intertwined in the new narrative. With Weaver even getting Samantha a dog in the Season 3 intel, it is clear how much he cares about her. Considering that Sam is doing her best to fight against Omega, it makes sense for Weaver to do the same. On top of this, Kravchenko was responsible for removing Weaver’s eye, and with the villain having deep ties to Omega, it is hard to imagine the two ever working side by side.

Dr. Strauss was forced to work for the Nazis on Projekt Endstation, making him an important ally for Requiem to have. Having woked on the original experiments that occurred in Die Maschine, Strauss has taken on the role of the CIA’s Aetherium expert. Brought over to the U.S. as part of Operation Paperclip, Strauss’s life was essentially spared by America. However, he could still betray the country, with his addiction to Aetherium being the cause for this change in loyalties. Clearly obsessed with the element, Omega could simply offer Strauss more of the resource than Omega. An opportunist that prioritizes the element over all else, this could be an easy motivator to change sides.

Of the known players in the Dark Aether story, there is no better fit than Major Carver. Not only would he be a more interesting choice than the former Nazi, as everyone already suspects Strauss, but there are some solid pieces of evidence behind this theory. For starters, Carver was the only person to force himself into Requiem. Despite doing this with a pro-America stance, it is an interesting difference, as all the other senior staff members were recruited. However, the bigger factor in Carver joining the Omega Group may be his military mind.

While many are assuming that the mole has purely evil tendencies, they may be trying to bring both sides together to fight a greater threat. The One is coming out of the Dark Aether soon, and with this entity controlling all the Zombies, the world could be plunged into chaos if it does appear. As such, Carver could be prioritizing the defeat of this looming threat. In recent pieces of intel, Omega has seemingly switched its focus to dealing with The One. Carver could be the one that fed them the information about this supreme being, as other intel has seen him discovering info about the creature. His missions inside of Outbreak are also different from the others. While Grey and Strauss are focused on studying the Dark Aether to improve Requiem’s weaponry, Carver is simply eliminating threats from the dimension — something that lines up with his priorities.

While his motive may ultimately be tied to the greater good, Carver seems like a perfect fit for the position of the mole. He could be more focused on dealing with the Zombies than winning the Cold War, as he knows that the undead could overwhelm the entire world if they are not stopped. While Call of Duty Zombies fans cannot be sure that Carver will be revealed as Omega’s insider, he is the best option from the named characters.

Finally, there is the least interesting option, though it should not be ruled out. Weaver has outright heard his commanding officer speaking Russian, and while this could be a red herring, it could also be meaningful. This unknown director could have a similar outlook to the one suggested for Carver, with their main goal being to join forces with Omega to help stop The One’s army. While it would be a lot less exciting than having a named character like Carver or Strauss switch sides, it is not out of the realm of possibility. Regardless, fans should learn the identity of the mole inside Mauer Der Toten. With the second Outbreak easter egg ending with Requiem being captured by Omega, they should be spending a lot more time with the villains. As such, there will be plenty of opportunities to discover the mole.
