James Gunn confirms that he has talked to both Marvel and DC about a potential crossover movie and that it's not an impossible pursuit.

Marvel and DC, for the most part, are usually classified as separate entities, separate worlds. This is due to the fact that the two have only coexisted and met one another a sparse amount of times in the comics. The idea of them jumping to the big screen in unison is a much greater leap. The fandom seems to be pleading for a Marvel and DC crossover movie, and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn may have offered some hope.

Fans may admire certain individual aspects of Marvel and DC, but to have them overlap seems like the best of both worlds. To see characters residing from both the Marvel and DC world together may seem a little strange at first. The thought of such opposing heroes interacting with one another on-screen might be a bit hard to picture. The technical and practical aspects of trying to film them all in a live-action environment seem a bit unfathomable as well.

From the looks of it, neither Warner Bros. nor Marvel Studios seem to be leaning towards the likely conclusion that a crossover movie will be happening any time soon. Nevertheless, Gunn is instilling some faith back into the possibility of making the crossover a reality. Gunn is definitely the one to be calling it like a coin toss since he has worked on both Marvel and DC movies throughout the years. He directed all of the Guardians of the Galaxy films and the DC's The Suicide Squad, meaning he has access to both worlds. This fact alone makes him the one person that may be able to propel the crossover movie into the near future.

Gunn actually broke the news to a fan from Twitter, revealing that he has conversed with both Marvel and DC about the chance of a crossover movie. A fan tweeted Gunn, asking him to confirm whether or not the idea was even probable. The question read, “Do you think there’s even a remote chance that we will ever see a big blockbuster crossover between the MCU and DC?” Fans want to solidify that a crossover movie is a definitive no, so the hope for it one-day happening can be let down more easily. In response, Gunn tweeted, “I’ve casually talked to the powers that be at both Marvel and DC about it. I would love for it to happen. I don’t think it’s an impossibility either. THAT SAID, just constantly seeing crossovers and mashups is less enchanting to me than a strong story."

With that being said, Gunn may be straddling the line a bit, despite him not being the biggest fan of crossover films. Yet, he did say he would rather have strong stories that can stand on their own, and combining them may, in fact, lessen some of each franchise's unique charm.

The Suicide Squad will be in theatres and on HBO Max on August 6th, 2021.
