There are many realms in the world of God of War, but it isn't a requirement to visit all of them in the game. For instance, the realm of Niflheim is completely optional. That said, players can use it as an easy way to grind for loot and has plenty to offer in terms of action.

The realm is procedurally generated into a baseball field-shaped maze. The main goal is to survive the maze while collecting as many Mist Echoes as possible. Among the many challenges in this realm is the Realm Tear challenge, which will require players to find Anchors of Fog.
In the realm of Niflheim, there are four areas and four sub-areas that form a perfect diamond. Each area is procedurally generated, meaning loot will be randomized for each. However, the Anchors of Fog tend to be in a similar place each time.
That said, they are usually not in the diamond. Players will need to visit areas north of the diamond in order to access these items. The two areas protruding from the top half of the diamond each can generate a legendary chest, which will contain the anchors.

At the same time, players will be dealing with hordes of enemies, so they need to be careful about how they approach these areas. Specifically, the top left area will have a Valkyrie in it. It may be worthwhile taking down as many enemies as possible before searching all the chests in these rooms.
If players are worried about losing the loot collected in Niflheim, they can always leave through the entrance to save anything that has been stored. Dying in this realm will mean losing all of the items collected during a run.
For the most part, the Mist Echoes will be the primary material needed to activate certain events or unlock certain items. However, the Anchors of Fog are needed to open up some realm tears that can reward players handsomely. In total, there are three realm tears that each cost a certain amount of Mist Echoes and only one Anchor of Fog. This means that players will only need to collect three anchors in all.
- Costs the player 10,000 Mist Echoes and 1 Anchor of Fog
- Will spawn a realm tear that will have Ogres come out of it.
- Reward: the axe pommel Mistborne.
- Costs the player 15,000 Mist Echoes and 1 Anchor of Fog
- Will open a tear that will make players fight Wulvers and a Soul Destroyer
- Reward: the Gift of Apollo, a blades heavy runic attack
- Costs 20,000 Mist Echoes and 1 Anchor of Fog to spawn
- Players will have to face both Revenants and Nightmares
- Reward: the Talisman of Cursed Power.
