Call of Duty: Warzone releases a new update to tweak the MG 82, an LMG that has been dominating the meta since the start of Season 4.

A new patch has released for Call of Duty: Warzone, bringing a variety of bug fixes and tweaks to weapon balancing. Thankfully, the patch includes tweaks to the current king of Call of Duty: Warzone's meta, the MG 82.

The MG 82 was added to Call of Duty: Warzone as part of its Season 4 update. The MG 82 has so far boasted incredible stats that make it dominate with the right loadout in Call of Duty: Warzone. The weapon was designed to be strong at close range with high handling speed and bullet velocity, but it also maintained the usual benefits of an LMG, allowing it to be viable at long range.

Now, the balance hammer has come to adjust the MG 82, giving it a more comfortable place in the meta. The MG 82's nerf was announced just two days after it was released and includes a range of tweaks primarily focusing on the gun's damage. Its maximum damage has been decreased slightly from 30 to 29 while its minimum damage has been decreased from 28 to 27. Furthermore, the maximum damage range has been decreased by 20%. The number changes themselves are pretty small, but the blog post detailing the changes does acknowledge that the developers want the gun to still be viable, just not overwhelmingly used.

Lower base damage, however, is not where the adjustments end. The balance patch also decreases the gun's damage multipliers. The MG 82's headshot multiplier has been decreased from 1.3 to 1.2 while its upper chest multiplier is going from 1.1 to 1 and the multiplier has been taken down from 1 to 0.9 for extremities. To ensure that the MG 82 is less effective at long range, it's also having both its vertical and horizontal recoil increased. The changes seem like they will definitely center MG 82's place in the meta as a more close-ranged weapon, while guns such as the CARV.2 take over Call of Duty: Warzone's far-range encounters.

It will be interesting to see just how Call of Duty: Warzone's meta will shake out following the MG 82's adjustments. It seems plausible that the MG 82's tweaks will not be enough to knock it down from its throne, but the increased recoil and decreased damage numbers could see many players opting to only use it for close-range encounters after this patch. Players have still been reporting lag issues in Call of Duty: Warzone after the Season 4 update, however, so hopefully, another patch will address those issues soon.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
