While many of the important plot points remain lodged firmly in an average viewer’s mind, the smaller details can slip right under the radar. Even something as straightforward as heights and ages of recurring characters can become cloudy in a series as long as this one. Every once in a while, it does fans good to treat themselves to a bit of a refresher.

10 Monkey D. "Straw Hat" Luffy

  • Age: 19
  • Birthday: May 5
  • Height: 5' 8.5"

Monkey D. Luffy, better known as "Straw Hat Luffy", is the captain and founder of the infamous Straw Hat Pirates. He remains one of its top fighters (and its most insatiable eater). Serving as the primary protagonist of One Piece, Luffy's lifelong dream is to one day become the Pirate King.

He aims to complete this lofty goal by hunting down the treasure left behind by the legendary pirate Gol D. Roger. To Luffy, becoming Pirate King represents ultimate freedom, as he believes the Pirate King would have the most freedom in the world.

9 Roronoa "Pirate Hunter" Zoro

  • Age: 21
  • Birthday: November 11
  • Height: 5' 11"

Roronoa Zoro is also known as "Pirate Hunter" Zoro. He's one of the Straw Hat Pirates' two main swordsmen, and was the first pirate besides Luffy himself to join the crew.

Originally a bounty hunter, Zoro seeks to become the greatest swordsman in the world. He dreams of this in order to one day honor a promise he made to his deceased childhood friend Kuina. So far in the series, he's doing excellent work at honing his craft.

8 "Cat Burglar" Nami

  • Age: 20
  • Birthday: July 3
  • Height: 5' 7”

"Cat Burglar" Nami is the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates, and the second to join the crew after Zoro. Formerly a member of the Arlong Pirates, Nami had initially joined the Straw Hats in an attempt to rob them blind; she sought the Straw Hats' fortune in her attempts to buy her village back from Arlong.

Once the Straw Hats rebelled against Arlong, Nami officially joined the crew as a legitimate member. Having freed the village from Arlong, Nami set out with the Straw Hats on her dream to map the entire world.

7 "God" Usopp

  • Age: 19
  • Birthday: April 1
  • Height: 5' 9.5"

"God" Usopp serves as Straw Hats' sniper. Usopp was raised in Syrup Village, acting as the "captain" of the Usopp Pirates (a group of delinquent children under his command). He was the third member to join Luffy's crew.

After Usopp helped the Straw Hats defeat the deadly Black Cat Pirates, Luffy gave him the opportunity to join the crew. Although some may describe Usopp as a bit of a coward, he hopes to eventually become a bold seafaring warrior like his father.

6 Vinsmoke "Black Leg" Sanji

  • Age: 21
  • Birthday: March 2
  • Height: 5' 11”

Vinsmoke "Black Leg" Sanji serves as the cook for the Straw Hat Pirates. As the fourth member of the crew to join, Sanji boasts formidable fighting skills alongside his culinary expertise. Born a son to the Vinsmoke Family, Sanji rejected his princely birthright and disowned his family.

After fleeing the Vinsmokes, he was cared for by Zeff, former captain of the Cook Pirates. In exchange, he worked as the sous chef of the Baratie, Zeff's ocean-faring restaurant. He would remain on the Baratie until he met Luffy, who offered Sanji an opportunity to join the Straw Hats. Sanji dreams of finding the mythical chef's paradise, All Blue.

5 Tony Tony "Cotton Candy Lover" Chopper

  • Age: 17
  • Birthday: December 24
  • Height: 2' 11.5" (Hybrid Form)

Often mistaken for the crew's pet, Tony Tony Chopper is actually the doctor of the Straw Hat Pirates, and the fifth crewmember to join. Chopper was once a normal reindeer before eating the Hito Hito no Mi, a Devil Fruit that allows for the transformation into human hybrid (or even a full human) at the consumer's will.

After his transformation, Chopper learned the basics of medicine from his parental figures, Doctors Hiriluk and Kureha. As part of Luffy's crew, Chopper's dream is to one day discover the cure to any and every disease. He travels the world in hopes of becoming such a doctor.

4 Nico "Devil Child" Robin

  • Age: 30
  • Birthday: February 6
  • Height: 6' 2"

Nico "Devil Child" Robin (also known as the "Light of the Revolution") acts as the archaeologist of the Straw Hat Pirates, and was the sixth crewmember to join. As a child, Robin ate the Hana Hana no Mi, a Devil Fruit that allowed her to manifest parts of her body (or even her entire body) on any surface. In addition, she is currently the only person alive with the ability to decipher Poneglyphs, a skill forbidden by the World Government.

Robin was initially opposed to the Straw Hat Pirates in her role as the vice president of Baroque Works, before eventually joining the crew. Her dream is to uncover the Rio Poneglyph. This artifact is rumored to reveal the true history of the world, as much of history had been erased by the World Government.

3 "Iron Man" Franky

  • Age: 36
  • Birthday: March 9
  • Height: 7' 10.5"

"Iron Man" Franky works as shipwright for the Straw Hat Pirates. The seventh member of the crew to join, he chose the nickname of "Franky" as a means of hiding his identity. Surviving a rough childhood, he came to be a member of Tom's Workers, a collection of highly-respected shipwrights. A devastating incident later resulted in Franky being badly wounded, requiring his transformation into a cyborg.

Franky and his followers were initially opponents of the Straw Hats. However, circumstances later forced them to become allies. Once the antagonism waned, Frank saw Luffy's crew as an opportunity to fulfill his dream of creating a ship that could navigate the entire world. He constructed the Thousand Sunny, the second ship of the Straw Hat Pirates, and joined the crew to chase his dream.

2 "Soul King" Brook

  • Age: 90
  • Birthday: April 3
  • Height: 8' 8.5"

"Soul King" Brook is the official musician of the Straw Hat Pirates. The eighth crewmember to join, Brook also serves as the second of the Straw Hats' swordsmen. Brook's powers originate from the Yomi Yomi no Mi, a Devil Fruit which gave him the ability to resurrect himself after death a single time. However, Brook learned to delve deeper into these powers, which granted him control over not only his own soul, but the souls of those around him.

Having originally served as a crewmember of the Rumbar Pirates, Brook had died and was resurrected. However, due the soul struggling to reach his abandoned body, time reduced his corpse to a mere skeleton, leaving only his iconic afro intact. Brook drifted alone for 50 years, before eventually meeting Luffy and joining the crew.

1 "Knight of the Sea" Jinbe

  • Age: 44
  • Birthday: April 2
  • Height: 9' 10.5"

"Knight of the Sea" Jinbe acts as helmsman for the Straw Hat Pirates, and was the ninth and latest member to join the crew. Jinbe is a whale shark fish-man and, fittingly, is a master of "Fish-Man Karate". Jinbe was once a member of the the Sun Pirates, and became their captain after the original captain's death. He rose to become one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, although he resigned this post during the Summit War of Marineford.

During this war, Jinbe befriended Luffy, and eventually allied with the Straw Hats to prevent a coup against the Ryugu Kingdom's Neptune Royal Family. In gratitude, Luffy invited him to join his crew . Jinbe's dream is to find a way to fulfill his former captain's dying wish of peace, coexistence, and understanding between humans and fish-men.
