While the rumors involving Naughty Dog and "Stray's Cross" have begun circulating, fans shouldn't expect an announcement any time soon.

Naughty Dog has proven itself to be one of the most consistent developers in the industry, pumping out games of great quality, which often garner great acclaim. For this very reason, fans remain ever-excited to learn of what the studio's planning next and current rumors indicate a project codenamed Stray's Cross.

Stray's Cross is supposedly a first-person action-adventure game, set in what many claim to be futuristic sci-fi dystopia. It would certainly be great to see a studio of such pedigree flexing its creative muscles in a new realm, but there's a multitude of reasons as to why fans shouldn't hold their breath for a reveal just yet.

Naughty Dog's rumored Stray Cross might be doing the rounds on the internet for some time now, but the game is still in early pre-production. The game's story, characters, and gameplay ideas are still being formulated if the rumors are to be believed, which means it's still a long way from getting anywhere near ready for a reveal. Naughty Dog being one of Sony's biggest AAA development studios means that it gets plenty of resources at its disposal. Naughty Dog presumably would and should take its time to create an entirely new world.

As for even a glimpse of a gameplay reveal, Naughty Dog's previous track record suggests announcements would take place after the game enters full production. As mentioned before, it could be as early or as late as Naughty Dog wants to reveal the title, so there's not much to be gained in expecting anything concrete any time soon.

Despite a plethora of rumors surrounding Stray's Cross, there's little possibility that the new IP is the studio's biggest focus. Naughty Dog's latest game, The Last of Us 2 is yet to receive its promised standalone multiplayer component, which has many fans understandably worried. This might just be the studio's biggest priority right now, but there are other rumors as well which dampen the possibility of Stray's Cross coming along any time soon.

In addition to the Stray's Cross rumors, many reports suggest that Naughty Dog might be working on a PS5 remake of The Last of Us. While there's still no concrete information available about The Last of Us remake or The Last of Us 2's multiplayer, it seems that The Last of Us remake might just beat Stray's Cross to the punch to coincide with the former's HBO series.

All things considered, it seems safe to assume that the rumored Stray's Cross could even be a late-gen release. The current circumstances and the studio's penchant for taking all the required time for completing its games support that sentiment, to some extent. There's no shortage of blockbuster PS5 releases to look forward to for the time being, so Stray's Cross will likely remain in development as long as necessary, assuming that it's real.
