Another terrifying addition to the Candyman horror film series awaits with Jordan Peele and Nia DaCosta's upcoming origin story film.

Lurking around every corner and behind every mirror, Candyman is only a few words away from taking his next victim. Now, Universal has released a second trailer for the upcoming origin story film Candyman.

This dark horror film, buzzing with the hive that is Candyman himself and his bloody murderous hook, is a follow-up to the two '90s Candyman films. Based on the new trailer alone, the film promises a terrifying experience for moviegoers.

The original 1992 film follows a college graduate, Helen, who gets herself into more than she bargained for upon researching urban legends. Helen begins focusing her research on the Black urban legend of Candyman. The story goes if you say "Candyman" in a mirror five times, a murderous hook-handed man will appear and murder you with his signature weapon. While conducting her research, Helen comes across the killer a few times but is first convinced that a real person is murdering people under the same name. With 25 unexplained murders pinned on an innocent Black man, the real Candyman (the son of a slave who was wrongfully lynched) shows Helen his real story. The titular killer then embodies her, unintentionally turning her spirit into the next "Candyman" after she is burned alive by an angry mob.

The new film follows artist Anthony McCoy and his girlfriend Brianna Cartwright, who live in a gentrified apartment in the previous slum of Cabrini-Green, where the original movie takes place. Anthony becomes obsessed with the legend of Candyman after hearing the story from Daniel Robitaille, wanting to incorporate the core of the story into his artwork. Unfortunately, Anthony and Brianna inadvertently open a door for the killer to pursue his horror again.

The film also has a promising team and excellent casting. Directing the film is Nia DaCosta, who previously directed the 2018 crime thriller Little Woods and is set to direct the upcoming film The Marvels, which has a release date set for 2022. Master of horror Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us) wrote the screenplay for the film and is producing the project.

Some of the main characters include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen) as Anthony McCoy, Teyonah Parris (WandaVision) as Brianna Cartwright, and Tony Todd playing his original character Daniel Robitaille from the original 1992 film, among others. With an incredible cast and crew who all have experience in horror and suspense, the film is sure to be an excellent addition to the horror film series. See it once, or see it five times.

Candyman will be in theaters starting August 27th, 2021.
