John Cena was recently a guest on The Tonight Show when he revealed to Jimmy Fallon that he, without a doubt, will be returning to the WWE.

Back in May, John Cena was feeling rather nostalgic about his wrestling days and shared a picture of the WWE logo on his social media. Cena ultimately confirmed while on The Tonight Show that the post was strictly him missing and re-visiting the past, not him trying to announce anything to fans. Yet, in many ways, the fans aren’t completely wrong in their suspicion.

Many fans took this post as confirmation that Cena would be returning to the WWE at that very moment. Celebrities are known to give fans a tease of some of their work or upcoming plans right before the drop, to keep fans on their toes and get them even more excited.

Cena may not have been telling fans that he would return to the WWE soon or even when, but he did verify that he will be returning at some point in the future. He told Fallon, “Some people took it as I was returning immediately, which that’s not the case. I haven’t had my last match and I can’t wait to have my next match." Cena’s last match with the WWE was at WrestleMania 36, over a year ago. This may come as shocking news to fans or a big relief to hear that he isn’t done wrestling.

Cena is a rare breed. He is incredibly multi-talented. He has a strong presence in both the film and sports industries, making him very hard to keep up with. So what’s been keeping Cena from being in the ring? Hollywood seems to have him on hold as of late, with his latest role being that of Dominic Toretto's brother in Fast and Furious 9. Cena revealed to Fallon how busy his acting career is currently and mentioned three major projects, two of which will be dropping very soon.

This includes the highly anticipated film The Suicide Squad, which comes out in less than a month. He will also be making his mark in the television industry, sharing with Fallon that he is currently filming the Peacemaker series. In addition to a brand new comedy flick Vacation Friends, which will be premiering soon as well, it’s clear why he has been taking a break from the WWE. Although Cena has a love for both acting and wrestling, it’s hard to do both simultaneously.

He brought up to Fallon that acting doesn’t really permit him to also wrestle on the weekends. Rumors have been circulating that Cena will be a possible guest for the SummerSlam happening in August. Many think that the SummerSlam will possibly get Cena to join the wrestling world once more and steer him away from the distraction of Hollywood. Fans can undoubtedly expect Cena to return to the WWE, it’s just a matter of when.

Fast and Furious 9 is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
