GungHo announces a collaboration with Demon Slayer to celebrate Ninjala's first anniversary, with themed avatar costumes coming in July.

GungHo Online Entertainment's Ninjala has been a huge hit on the Nintendo Switch. Currently at over 7 million downloads, it continues to be a highly successful title where players can compete in 8-player battle royale matches online. With Ninjala now having been out for a full year, GungHo decided to celebrate in style. In a stream dedicated to its anniversary, the developers announced it will be collaborating with Koyoharu Gotoge's best-selling manga series, Demon Slayer.

GungHo had announced earlier that the anniversary of the game was drawing near, with Ninjala's sixth season of content kicking off the festivities. This included new weapons, cards, and maps to the game, in order to celebrate this milestone. One of the bigger announcements made during the anniversary stream was the new collaboration that will be taking place, with avatar items based on characters from Demon Slayer.

These avatar items will be not only have clothing and hairstyles based on the characters of Demon Slayer, but also their corresponding elemental styles. These are represented with emotes that replicate some of their attacks from the series, such as Tanjiro's Water Surface Slash. There will be a total of nine characters being represented in this collaboration, including Tanjiro, Nezuko, Rengoku, Zenitsu, and the series' big bad, Muzan. Other cosmetic touches will be exclusive to this crossover such as skins for the katana weapon class, based on each character's personal swords.

The developers also announced that an in-game Demon Slayer-themed tournament will be held to commemorate the collaboration, where players can earn a variety of items if they rank high enough. The dates of the collab were also revealed, where it will be running from July 19 to August 30, 2021.

In the past, GungHo's developers had collaborated with several different IPs, with themed crossover costumes for the avatar characters. Some of these included Sonic the Hedgehog and Monster Hunter and GungHo had expressed hopes in the past that Ninjala would collaborate with popular anime and manga properties. With this anime being the first of these wishes, it's possible that the gates are open for other series to be open for collaboration.

To conclude its anniversary stream, the developer announced that a region-wide anniversary tournament will be held that will run before release of the collaboration. This tournament will give players the chance to earn special rewards. Other details include the roadmap for the year, including Season 7, which will have a new battle mode that will be implemented called "Last Ninja Standing." A new feature will also be running in beta during the seventh season called "Visual Lobby," which is a social lobby for the game, giving players the chance to interact and show off.

Ninjala is available now for the Nintendo Switch as a free-to-play title.
