There are many intricacies to Disgaea 6 that players should know before booting up the game.

In many ways, the Disgaea series is recommended to anyone that loves Final Fantasy Tactics which seems to be the poster child for strategy RPGs. That is both true and not at the same time because the systems at play in this series have been more complex since it began on the PS2 in 2003.

NIS has made an effort to streamline Disgaea 6 to be more accessible to newcomers but there are still a lot of mechanics to grasp. What classes should be taken? What’s the best way to level up? What items are essential? There are more questions than this that have answers on how one should start this game on the Switch

10 You Can Customize Performance

Unlike other Switch games on the system Disgaea 6 allows players to customize their performance. There are three modes in the game that can be c.fhanged in the options which mirror similar results from the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Graphics mode makes everything look nicer at the cost of a loss in frame rate and longer loads. Performance makes everything run smoother from the loads to frames, but everything looks blurry. Balanced obviously then is the better parts of both.

9 Easy Way To Level Up Early On

In chapter two the third stage of the Human World, Rich Man’s Plaza, is a great place to level up. All players have to do is kill the Hero Yarmada multiple times who is constantly reviving in the level. It’s all part of the story wherein he is tasked with being an experience bonus. This stage being a good place to level up is somewhat obvious but it should be noted anyway for those not accustomed to traditional RPG patterns on the Switch

8 Leveling Up Abilities

When characters level up they gain new abilities. Also, using abilities will help increase their power. There is one more method to powering up abilities and it’s a very important one. In the hub world there is a skill shop.

Here players can increase the power and effectiveness of an ability at the cost of mana which is nice but it is not the goal with this tip. Some abilities such as healing spells can have their range increased. This makes it easier to heal multiple party members at once which is a good strategy for any RPG.

7 Taking On Quests

Disgaea 6 has a more equals better mentality when it comes to many mechanics such as quests. When the quest shop opens up, there are what seems like an infinite amount. The good thing is that there are no limits on how many quests one can take on at once.

Don’t pay attention to what the quest asks. Just accept them all and claim rewards as the game goes along because eventually these quests will complete themselves. Most pertain to killing a certain type of enemy and or gathering an item.

6 Understanding Super Reincarnation

Reincarnation has been a thing in past Disgaea games. However, as the name might imply Super Reincarnation is much more potent. Players can go back to level one anytime they want. Some stats will be kept upon revising a character’s level.

So in theory the main character Zed at level fifty will have different stats at that same level the next time over. It seems tempting but honestly, the game is easy enough where this mechanic is not necessary so don’t bother.

5 Auto-Battle Guidance

One of the most unique new elements this game introduces to not just the Disgaea series but all strategy RPGs is auto-battling. Characters will act on their own fairly competently which makes getting through stages a snap. Missions that used to take upwards of half an hour in past games can now be completed in minutes. Make sure to pay attention to generic archetypes in the Demonic Intelligence menu such as setting up auto-healing characters.

4 Speeding Up The Process

Not only will characters finish maps by themselves, but their speed can be increased in the menu. In the options menu, there are options such as skipping animations that will make battles go by even quicker. What’s more, the game can play itself.

To go back to the hero Yarmada stage as an example, one can set the AI to auto-battle and then hit select on the Switch to add on auto-repeat. This means characters will keep replaying the same map on repeat unless one intervenes or the characters die.

3 Favor Story Characters Over Created Ones

Most new chapters in Disgaea 6 introduce a new member to join Zed’s troop. These characters may be lower leveled than some generic characters created, but they will often be more valuable in the end. Their unique abilities make them stronger is the point. There are ways to pick them up to speed such as the auto-battle and auto-repeat method or there is a juice bar to dish out free experience gathered.

2 D-Merits And Classes

Go into a character’s status menu. Here players can look at two important tabs pertaining to classes and D-Merits. Story characters can change their classes at any time and doing so will help make them a stronger character the more classes they one hundred perfect.

D-Merits are sort of like achievements dished out to individual characters. The big difference here is that these trophies also give the player rewards such as Karma or experience boosters.

1 Stacking Characters

One of the more unique gameplay elements that has persisted with the Disgaea series since the beginning on the PS2 is the character stacking system. One character can lift another to then toss them across the map. Going into the menu and selecting Lift does not take that long however time is money and there is an easy time-saving method.

If a character simply walks into the same tile as another, that original character will lift the new character up. It’s an easy and efficient method for stacking.
