A reference to one of Super Mario Sunshine's central characters, FLUDD, is spotted by keen-eyed fans in Mario Golf: Super Rush.

Mario Golf: Super Rush has now launched for the Nintendo Switch. Mario Golf: Super Rush's roster ranges from Mario and his friends, to more obscure characters such as King Bob-omb from Super Mario 64. However, keen-eyed fans of Super Mario Sunshine have spotted a reference to one of its key items: FLUDD.

FLUDD, which is short for Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device, was an invention by Professor E. Gadd that was designed for pumping out water. FLUDD made its first appearance in Super Mario Sunshine for the GameCube. The device was integral in helping Mario clean up Isle Delfino and simultaneously clear his name for covering the island in graffiti in the first place. Not only could FLUDD spray water to clean up Isle Delfino, it could transform with a variety of nozzles, which allows Mario to hover above the ground, accelerate, or perform high-flying rocket jumps.

Since then, FLUDD hasn't made too many appearances in the main series Mario games. The only other appearances that FLUDD has made were in spin-offs, like in Mario Power Tennis, as a water pump seen in the Chain Chomp Challenge minigame. FLUDD has also made an appearance as a playable item, having been incorporated as one of Mario's moves in the Super Smash Bros. series since Brawl. And now FLUDD has been discovered in Mario Golf: Super Rush, the latest sports game based on the Super Mario franchise.

While the water pump has made very few appearances after Sunshine, there are many fans of FLUDD and its functions. Super Mario Sunshine remains a classic to many gamers who had a GameCube, and with this appearance as an Easter Egg fans have expressed the nostalgia they've had over Sunshine. Some had even hoped that there could be a possible sequel to the title, giving FLUDD another chance to shine again.

For those who might have wanted to check out FLUDD and where they came from, besides the original on the GameCube, there is also the re-release in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection on the Switch. While All-Stars is currently delisted on the eShop, fans can still enjoy this Easter Egg to FLUDD, dutifully guarding the courses in the story mode of Super Rush.
