Since Bungie ended Destiny 2's sunsetting system, the studio has been actively bringing back sunset gear for players to earn again. Season of the Splicer brought back several faction weapons, playing on the importance of the Last City's factions in a narrative around the Endless Night. However, Bungie isn't done yet, as more sunset weapons are being brought back and getting refreshed with the next planned update in July.
Bungie spoke about the weapon refresh in its latest This Week at Bungie post. Community manager Cozmo said the next planned Destiny 2 update will be dropping on July 6, and with it Moon and Dreaming City location weapons will be brought back into the loot pool. The weapons will also be getting a perk refresh when they are made available, bringing them up-to speed with the current loot pool.

This is the second weapon refresh these locations have gotten in the last few months following a dungeon refresh in Season of the Chosen. However, while those drops are limited to the Shattered Throne and Pit of Heresy dungeons, the next refresh will make the remaining weapons earnable as location drops on the Moon and Dreaming City. Guardians will be able to grind for nine reissued weapons across the Moon and three weapons from Dreaming City.
A weapon refresh like this is a shot in the arm these locations need to give many veteran players a reason to revisit them. There is currently no reason to visit the Moon or Dreaming City outside of quest requirements which, at this point, are likely few and far between for many players. By bringing back these sunset weapons with fresh perks, players have a reason to run some lost sectors on the Moon or visit the Blind Well in the Dreaming City to land a godroll weapon they've been looking for.
The gear refresh also comes at a good time, as the summer is generally regarded as a quiet period for Destiny 2. Outside of news about upcoming expansions, the most that active players have to look forward to is the Solstice of Heroes seasonal event and maybe an odd surprise. Giving the Moon and Dreaming City a refresh not only helps these locations, but the game as a whole as it gives players a reason to log on and keep grinding.
Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
