Destiny 2 players need to speedrun Expunge: Styx in less than nine minutes to complete the week seven seasonal challenge, Expedited Expunge: Styx.

Season of the Splicer’s Expunge: Styx mission in Destiny 2 is available to players that have worked through the Path of the Splicer weekly story quest. It features lots of lasers to avoid, and careful platforming while carrying orbs.

One of the week seven seasonal challenges in Destiny 2 requires players to complete the mission in nine minutes or less. The Destiny 2 Expunge missions have also revealed more about who is behind the Endless Night that currently affects the Last City.

Before attempting to complete Expunge: Styx in under nine minutes, players must have the Codestrider, Signal Booster, and Wirewalker Splicer Gauntlet upgrades. These will grant access to some extra platforms and useful gravity cannons that make the whole mission more forgiving.

While a lot of enemies can be skipped to speed up this Expunge mission, players will still need a loadout and Super that is good for quickly destroying clusters of Vex. A Warmind Cell build that uses the IKELOS SMG would be a good place to start. This would go well with a hard-hitting Shotgun and heavy weapon that can quickly destroy a boss.

Any mobility-boosting Exotic Armor pieces, including Transversive Steps for Warlocks, Lion Rampant for Titans, and St0mp-EE5 for Hunters, will be good to have equipped. Supers such as Hammer of Sol, Golden Gun, and Chaos Reach will all be useful for boss damage and add-clearing in this mission.

This first section is the same across all Expunge missions, and most of it can be skipped by activating the Wirewalker node right at the beginning. From here, players need to follow the new path, jump down the chasm, and traverse the corridor full of shifting blocks to reach the end portal. Ideally, Destiny 2 players should have no more than 90 seconds on the clock at this point.

As soon as Destiny 2 players reach the bottom of the gravity lift, they need to activate the Codestrider node. This will add extra platforms throughout the next section that will make the platforming much easier. Players will also be able to see a Vex octahedron which they need to shoot to collect an Authentication Key orb.

These keys will expire after a certain time which can be seen on the left side of the screen. Walking through the small, glowing data cubes throughout this mission while holding a key will extend the key’s timer by a short amount of time.

Every data cube that a player walks through will disappear and create a holographic ring on the floor that adds time to the countdown timer when a player is standing in it. Using these rings to prevent keys from ever expiring will save a lot of time in this speedrun. If a key does expire, those rings will also act as a checkpoint that Authentication Keys can respawn at.

While holding a key, players can move forward quickly by jumping once and immediately performing a melee attack. This is especially helpful while platforming as it allows players to cross gaps very quickly. It also helps with jumping over or past the red lasers found throughout this mission safely. However, players need to be aware of nearby enemies as Guardians can unexpectedly lock onto and punch them.

Once Destiny 2 players make it to the boss room and deposit the first key, they need to immediately turn left and head into the next area. From here, players must run across the platform to the far-right corner and use the gravity cannon to cross the gap and reach another platform with a shielded Vex octahedron.

There will be lots of Vex enemies in this area that need to be destroyed quickly to get a Nexus Guardian Harpy to spawn. There is a Hobgoblin Barrier Champion in this area too, although players should ignore it.

Destiny 2 players then need to destroy the Nexus Guardian to bring down the shield protecting the octahedron, which can now be broken to get a new Authentication Key. Players need to use the gravity cannon on the corner of the platform to get back to the main platform that leads to the boss room quickly.

Once that key has been deposited, players need to head through a tunnel full of moving lasers. There will also be red laser cubes that release mini-Harpies, so players should look out and be ready to shoot them. As players exit the tunnel and reach the platforming area, they should look straight down and use the gravity cannon to skip all the platforms. From here, players need to defeat Vex to lure out another Nexus Guardian and collect a new key.

This journey back to the boss room with the key is considerably longer and more difficult thanks to the moving lasers and Hobgoblins. Destiny 2 players need to make sure they use nearly every ring to reset the key’s countdown. Once that key has been deposited, the boss fight will start, and players should have fewer than seven minutes on the timer.

Once players get Dikast into its first immune phase, they carry an Authentication Key across the room to a receiver. This is much easier and safer to do if players use the Codestrider platforms that appear above Dikast.

With the key deposited, Dikast’s immunity will end, and players can finish it off quickly using their Supers and heavy weapon. The mission will end, and Destiny 2 players should have about eight minutes on the timer.

Players can also try the corrupted version of this mission to get pinnacle Splicer gear by opening Corrupted Conflux Chests.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light and Season of the Splicer are available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
