Doom Eternal's PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X ports are officially available, with id Software revealing they'll offer three new graphics modes.

Before the launch of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, id Software announced it would be bringing Doom Eternal to both platforms with an array of enhancements. Today, the studio made good on that promise, releasing the latest entry in its demon-slaying, first-person action series on Sony and Microsoft's next-generation platforms.

The update is entirely free for those who own Doom Eternal on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and offers three separate graphics modes that focus on either resolution or frame rate. There's a "Balanced Mode" that prioritizes visuals, offering a 2160p resolution and 60 FPS gameplay on PlayStation 5 and Series X, as well as a Performance Mode, which drops the resolution down to 1800p but ups the frame rate to 120 FPS. The third option is a dedicated Ray Tracing Mode, which offers a 1800p resolution and 60 FPS gameplay but adds immersive reflections.

Those jumping into the game on Xbox Series S won't have the option to access the Ray Tracing Mode, although they'll be able to swap between Performance Mode and Balanced Mode, with the former offering a 1080p resolution with 120 FPS and the latter boasting a 1440p resolution with 60 FPS.

Bethesda has shown off a first look at the game's Xbox Series X port in action through a new trailer on its YouTube channel, with the clip highlighting the enhanced visuals and smoother frame rate. The promo starts off by briefly highlighting each of the new graphics modes, showing off its new ray tracing features, some enhanced lighting effects, and plenty of combat encounters with the frame rate cranked up. It then shifts over to some footage from the game recaptured on the Xbox Series X, highlighting the Doom Slayer's return to Earth and his war against the Khan Maykr.

The two upgrades offer more than enough incentive to dive back into Doom Eternal, especially considering Xbox players can experience the latest iteration of the long-running franchise on Game Pass. For those intending to try out the title for the first time now it's available on next-generation platforms, Doom Eternal follows on from the events of id Sofware's 2016 reboot of the series, seeing the Doom Slayer battle a demonic invasion on Earth. Much like the previous iteration, the game tasks players with battling hundreds of bloodthirsty demons, forcing them to rely on an arsenal of powerful guns, brutal glory kills, and a devastating chainsaw to rip and tear their way through their hellish opposition. The game was showered with praise back at release, with Game Rant calling it "a non-stop thrill ride."

Doom Eternal is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
